You are correct - so it sounds like it would just be an amendment to the DP. I'm guessing from the CTV story, it was approved? Either way, this is an impressive piece of redevelopment and I have no doubt that even if Nova Centre doesn't happen this year - when it does, HRM will hit that $1 Billion building permit value (this or next year).
I think it's important to really be impressed at the potential $1 billion construction value, for a region/city the size of HRM. To give you some context - Ottawa in 2010 had a total building permit value of $2 billion, with a population just shy of one million people (estimate). I got that information from this
report, which I would say is something HRM should consider publishing as things grow. On the other end, Calgary's 2011 Building permit value was $4.54 Billion, for a city just around 1.1 million. For HRM to hit $1 billion and still be around 420k population - that's impressive. I gives me hope that when the time comes that HRM passes 600,000 people we'll be seeing construction values well over $1 billion and hopefully in the $2-$2.5 billion range.
