Wearing your YYC shirt while not only in Calgary but in YYC itself? Meta.

I'll be repping my YYC shirt in Maui in a few weeks.

Hey WIGS...

I hate being a Debbie Downer, but have you investigated potential copyright/trademark implications here? As unlikely as it may seem, that +15 guy (and other things you've put on shirts, I haven't checked them all out) might be a registered property of the City and unavailable for commercial use such as this without proper licensing agreements. Not that I agree with it, but it did come to mind. I'd hate to see you run into legal issues over an oversight.

And of course if you're already looked into this sort of stuff, please tell me to MYOB.

PS: he's terribly cute. If I could think of a good way to fit that symbol into a pickup line, I'd totally wear that shirt when travelling.

freeweed,

My business partner contacted the creator of the +15 guy and hasn't heard back. Until someone tells us otherwise we are using him.
but I do appreciate the heads up/thanks for your concern

Copyright issues were one of the things we discussed before we launched. for example: we would never even think of doing any likeness to symbol or logo of NHL or CFL as professional sports is serious business

Huh, I don't even know how you found that info. I'd be lost. Hard to say if he owns reproduction rights or licensed it to the city, or what.

There are more and more "public" images (buildings, statues, etc) that in the past people were pretty free to reproduce on T-shirts, posters, and what have you - but are being reigned in under copyright and in some cases trademark. It's kind of sad but it's the world we live in. I hope you guys don't have to deal much with it - or worst case you have to discontinue a specific image. In the US the lawsuits can get ugly, fast.

Starting a small company is a pain in the ass once you have to get many lawyers on the payroll.

We'll be ok, as long as people buy our shirts!

Wow, you really lost me with that peace bridge design. Is that supposed to be ironic? It only comes across as a protest and is exactly the opposite message of the rest of the designs which seem to celebrate the city.

If you're trying to sell to the sun readers, I guess it's your right to try to grow your business in that direction, but I'd never wear it.

^It's just a T-shirt. We knew going in that we wouldn't be able to please everyone all the time. C'est la vie

I think this is the key part here. There's nothing wrong with poking a little fun, but the shirt definitely doesn't fit with the rest of the line.

Besides, without a latte cup I'm not sure exactly which bridge we're talking about.

That new Peace Bridge T-shirt is a FAIL. There is a shop that sells T-shirts on stephen ave for $5.00; this should fit right in.

I like the Peace Bridge T shirt without the price tag, but the price tag just makes it look gauche. No one outside of Calgary cares what we pay for our bridges.
