Pittsburgh - Dahntahn and then some

I took this week off from work and decided to spend yesterday wandering around downtown. (Dahntahn to locals.) I parked at my company lot in the Strip District and wandered around for around 5 hours taking pictures as I went.

1. The bane of the East... The Squirrel Hill Tunnel.

Great job. Hope to see more. I love your eye for composition.

3. I loathe that sloppy vacant/parking lot just out of view on the bottom left. Really destroys the cohesion of the Strip in a really critical area. Hopefully something gets built there someday.

7. Always liked that building front and center.

9. That may be the next phase of the "Cork Factory Lofts"... see Pittsburgh Development thread.

14 & 17. Absolutely horrifying example of riverfront architecture... an endless blank modern warehouse wall.

32. I believe Seagate evacuated Pittsburgh about a year ago. Not sure if there's anything left there... though a light is on. Perhaps, as a Strip District worker, you're privy to more information.

You mean this? I agree... but that's where most of us park for work so I'd be sad to see it go for completely selfish reasons. If I'm working somewhere else though...

Without a doubt... I was enjoying the houses and other structures that line the hills, but the stuff that actually lines that part of the Allegheny is horrible.

That could very well be. Honestly the lot is really well kept up and there was a couple lights on so I just kind of assumed they were closed down for the holidays. Wonder if they got some new tenants.

Great looking downtown. I also hope to visit the neighborhoods one day and check out the sweet high perched houses. Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll plant my flag and build another french fort, a snowfort that is...

146. US Steel Tower is made out of a product called Cor-ten steel. The idea is that it resists corrosion. It does this by forming a layer of intentional oxidization, which had the effect of turning the surrounding area brown.

Yes, I did grow up arahnd 'ere 'n' at. And yes, I actually had a get-out-of-school-free day, courtesy of my high school's administration for our graduating class (2002) getting stellar scores on our PSSA tests in 2001.

I wouldn't care if you filled up the rest of this thread with all kinds of shots of One PPG Place. I also love that building; I always have.

I miss the days of going into the office with my mom. She used to work in the US Steel Building up until 1998.
