As always we cannot bet the farm on a rendering. We can only hope that the powers that be will realize that the color of the glass will be vitally important.

I really didnt care for Calatrava's flourishes, but I guess that's why they don't pay me to design buildings. Thank God for that!!

Hell even Cirrus didn't tear it to shreds!

Now I did like the bridge design...but that was to be axed anyway. So that's all that I really miss. Calatrava is an awesome architect and some of his other stuff really is beautiful. In the long run, it probably wouldve been better to keep him...alas, we could not.

That's what's happening. Swingle was out today and yesterday clearing trees.

FYI - single lanes along i-25 will be closing nightly around 7pm. Oh, the joy!

Not so fast! From the DBJ:

http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2012/01/18/trader-joes-coming-to-colorado.html

Sources tell the Denver Business Journal that Trader Joe’s has inked three contracts to lease locations in metro Denver. It isn’t clear where the locations will be.

The obsession over Trader Joe's (and IKEA, and Cabela's, and In 'n' Out) is simply astounding. And frankly, a bit scary...

T-J's is just fine for what it is, and it does have a LOT of good convenience foods, but it's not exactly a perfect replacement for a supermarket.

Seems like everyone just wants their two-buck Chuck (or is it three buck Chuck now?)

Trader Joes, just like anything else, will only be allowed to sell alcohol at one location in Colorado.

That's the first of heard of a new station for the train. Improvements to the train, more tail track/crossover, yes. But I haven't heard anything about a station.

EDIT: Reading the EA now. Sure enough, 24-gate passenger concourse and return loop. Wow, nobody's ever talked about, in the media, or on here, I don't think. The "program overview facts" page doesn't mention it. It only mentions a vague "terminal interface." And I can only find one reference to it in the EA (in the emissions section), in a presentation slideshow.

The description of the project only mentions the train twice at all, here:

The RTD station would also provide space for the Automated Guideway Transit System (AGTS) serving Jeppesen Terminal so it could be extended through the Rail Station, at a different level.

and here:

The current AGTS would be extended 130 feet to the south of the Jeppesen Terminal and a crossover switch would be provided to improve operational efficiency.

Odd that something relatively major to how passengers move in/around the airport would get so little attention. I wonder if that's a future provision? It seems like if the passenger concourse were being built today, it would get more than one off-hand reference. But either way, neat.

Okay, who's got plans? Anybody have them readily accessible, before I go looking?

...
Do you have a link to the EA? I think you can see the underground train in the background of this Calatrava rendering.

Here is a daytime rendering of the new design.

The other renderings.

Exactly. I think the massing is an improvement over the Calatrava design and the glass is better as well. The devil is in the details though. It could be incredible or it could be very average. Overall though, I think it relates better to the existing terminal. Because the terminal is so iconic I think that is important ...but the original bridge would still be nice.

I wonder if it might be this project: The Rapids, a three-unit townhome project that has been planned for a while.

Agreed. Even if one of their locations turns out to be downtown Denver, downtown Denver's quest for a true grocery store won't be over.

Doubt it. That would be the south east side of 20th and I-25.

One in Boulder and one in Cherry Creek seem given to me. I'd bet on somewhere down south (Lone Tree) for the other.

If the site being discussed is at 20th and Central, I would call that the northwest corner of 20th and I-25, but whatever.

Some interesting submittals to the City of Denver in the last couple of days:

* A building permit for the 310-unit apartment project at Park Avenue West and Walnut Street.

* A building permit for the 160-unit apartment project at 2120 Blake Street.

* A plan submittal for a 327-unit apartment project at 20th Avenue and Clay street called "Alexan at Mile High."

Chauncey Biilups... Mr Big Shot, makes game winning shot for LAC

Recall general discussion but first I recall something specific for Sports Authority Field area. Trammell Crow Res. adding another Alexan project. This should be a nice addition over there.
I'm assuming we won't have the same kind of blowback that Red Peak is getting?

Nice to see new player Mill Creek Res. moving on their proposal.

It's a damn close perfect replacement. Out here in Boston, I have a Trader Joe's, Shaws, Stop and Shop and an Asian Market all within a 5 minute bike ride of my apartment. Which one do I frequent the most? TJs. Which one often has the cheapest prices? TJs. Granted, TJs doesn't have everything, but for my weekly groceries– Milk, OJ, bread, oatmeal, fruit, a few TV dinners, meats, veggies, snacks, etc– is has much of what I want. Now with that said, some of TJ's products aren't the tastiest– their oranges suck– but I can live with that.

Other things like toiletries or baking supplies, yeah TJs is awful at. However, for a good chunk of my groceries, it's great.
