Interesting. I always guessed that wine is their bread and butter since their actual bread and butter is so cheap and presumably low-margin. Well, I'm glad Denver's getting some Joe's. I love Trader Joes.

I'm sick of debating *whether* climate change is real when the discussion we should be having is what, if anything, to do about it.

But I suppose, in essence, we make that decision by the choice of debates we have. It's pretty clear we've chosen the "pay for response/mitigation" option over any prevention options.

Well not sure how old this PDF is but I don't see 1250 Cherokee happening based on the original renderings and website. But, who knows?

Looks like the developer has decided to sell the land. With the marketing emphasis being on the attractiveness of the parcel as a parking lot, I'm guessing that any kind of development is going to have to wait for awhile longer.

Damn, I liked this one, but never held out much hope for a project where the "developer" was pitching an 100% equity stake to no one in particular on an random website. Still the location is better than the 8th and Lincoln project that was recently announced, and rentals are hot right now.

It is weird that they are marketing only half of the assemblage, sounds like they probably don't own the whole thing and just had some handshake agreements for the other half of the land. Just smells like a deal with too many moving pieces to inspire confidence I think.

A quick check of the document properties shows that it was created in 2007, long before 1250 Cherokee was proposed. I understand that the property is still under contract with the developer still trying to get the financing together.

Speaking of this site and the assemblage issue, you may recall this post on DenverInfill:

Too bad - we really need more housing in this area to energize civil center park.

Crazy, this latest fire is threatening actual Boulder...not just mountain sprawl. Everybody west of Broadway and south of Dartmouth - everybody - has been told to be ready to evacuate. Yikes.

Air Force Academy on pre-evac notice too. Go east, young men!

This keeps up, we're going to need a Colorado de-development thread...

^Yeesh, and I thought that the Waldo Canyon Fire was going to be the first one to really threaten an urban area (Manitou Springs). Though since it it's moving toward the AF Academy the threat seems to have passed. For now.

Wonder if/when Hickenlooper will call up the National Guard to put some more bodies on the lines.

I don't know how specialized this sort of firefighting work is. Think the Guard would be able to help?

I've never eaten at Flagstaff House. I'm going to be bummed if it's gone tomorrow.

^Even if it's just for evacuating civilians and maintaining a cordon in the effected area for security purposes. But, I could see giving the National Guard a bunch of shovels and getting them to build firebreaks in the less threatened areas. It's going to be a question of how many fires are going to flare up so close to these populated areas.

Hell, Florida declares a disaster for a little tropical storm, I think that Colorado could do so for this. It's not like it's going to get any better for the next couple of weeks.

Hey we've got a cold front coming through tomorrow - only 98. I don't think Hick wants a Bill Owens "the whole state is on fire" moment. Better to let the tourists come and learn for themselves.

You see they closed I-25 north of the Springs? Guess they need the road to get folks off the Academy. That's a first, I think.

A friend just took this from the north side of Colorado Springs. Guess everything west of I-25 is being evacuated. My mother's office is evacuated and she's at Garden of the Gods just west of I-25. The Flying W Ranch is gone...

Thats what "get ready to evacuate" is - pre-evacuation.

Here's a "good" angle another friend posted. Falcon Stadium in foreground. Scary stuff.

we have never seen this before. this hot, this severe - fires so early - so many. Colorado can get harsh and hot - but the key is "records" - record heat , fires and droughts - what happens when much of colorado gets too hot and dry to exist? no farming , cattle , hunting - water - The way global warming is changing colorado and this planet, it may not be in the too distant future. It's not even july and it hit 105 in today. funny been around awhile - never seen Colorado this hot this early - seems like it could be even hotter then last year - maybe it will hit 115- 120 this year. At what temp will people start moving underground??

Denver has had a total of 75 recorded days in it's hisdtory with temps above 100. This summer we have already had more than 10 days of temps above 100.

Global Warming is simple science. I don't care if people want to deny basic scientific fact by claiming global warming is a hoax, but it's effects are already becoming apparant.
