Im surprised the Xavier plan doesn't have a specific design for a Street Car line connection. It shows the ROW, but I would have thought they would demand a quid-pro-quot from the city for anything UC had built for them (i.e Street Car Phase II)

I'd shoot for something like this (Phase IV) if I where them:

Looks good to me. I would love to see a streetcar line run through Walnut Hills, especially up to Desales Corner. A line like that has been proposed for future expansions, but they need to get it up the hill to UC first.

I think the right of way next to UC is envisioned for light rail, and it is finally getting some serious consideration. I wouldn't be surprised to see a vote come up in the next few years, especially if the first phase of the streetcar is a success.

$27.3M investment to transform historic Enquirer Building into 238-room hotel
Quote:
The historic Enquirer Building in downtown Cincinnati is finally set to get its long anticipated makeover. However, this time it will be as a hotel instead of the residences originally envisioned for the 86-year-old tower.

Plans call for a 238-room hotel with 12,000 square feet of street-level retail space. Plans call for the renovation work to be completed over the next two years, with the first guests arriving at the end of 2014.

SREE Hotels, which typically operates Marriott hotel brands, will be the eventual operator of the new hotel one block from Fountain Square. This will also be SREE Hotels first project in the Midwest.

Historic Enquirer building will have two Hilton brand hotels
Quote:
The proposed hotel to be developed in the former Enquirer building at 617 Vine St. in downtown Cincinnati will be a dual-brand facility featuring two Hilton limited-service hotels, according to the project’s developer.

Parag Patel, chief finance and development officer for Charlotte, N.C.-based SREE Hotels LLC, said the Enquirer building project will feature two of three Hilton brands among Hampton, Homewood Suites and Hilton Garden Inn. It will be the group’s first historic renovation and first hotel in the region, he said.

Developer eyeing more sites for downtown Cincinnati hotels
Quote:
The developer of a $28 million renovation at the former Enquirer building on Vine Street is already looking for more hotel sites downtown.

And SREE Hotels LLC is not alone, as commercial real estate brokers say the project reflects the rising level of interest for hotel and residential properties in downtown Cincinnati.

Cincinnati seeking grant for boat dock at Smale Park
Quote:
At its meeting last Wednesday, Cincinnati City Council unanimously approved a grant application for $3.8 million from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft for a 1,000-foot transient boat dock at Smale Riverfront Park.

The $5 million facility, meant to accommodate boats staying for 10 days or less, will have space for 56 boats and will include water and electric service. A dock house, called Main Street Landing, would house an office, concessions, restrooms, showers, storage, and laundry facilities.

It should be soon. I've been getting so impatient, haha.

They keep saying construction will begin this fall, so I would think we should see something in September (hopefully).

In other news:
1. Apparently the proposed new 13-story Holiday Inn at 8th and Sycamore has secured financing.
2. A new 1,500 space parking garage at 7th and Culvert will begin this spring, which will help make way for a proposed tower at 3rd and Broadway.

Are you talking about that building with the copper colored facade? Lord, I hope that was just put in to fill that space in the rendering.

That's what I thought, but couldn't really tell. The Hyatt really stands out in that pic. Thanks for pointing that out.

U Square project gains traction as retailers sign on
Quote:
After a decade of delays, the pace of activity on Calhoun Street in Clifton Heights is picking up.

Two-thirds of the retail space at the $78 million U Square @ the Loop project on Calhoun is now committed, said Arn Bortz, principal for developer Towne Properties. And he looks to sign a hotel developer by the end of the year. The project is targeted to the community surrounding the University of Cincinnati, including but not limited to UC students.
