My trip to Warsaw - Poland

I was in Warsaw for 3 days in December as part of my round the world trip.
The first thing that surprised me was the lack of snow and the very mild temperature of 0 C which was very unusual for mid December

I arrived around 6am on a direct flight from Hanoi with LOT Polish Airlines which uses charter planes for some of its destinations. On this occasion it used a plane from the Ukrainian airline aerosvit. The flight in itself was nice and smooth as we arrived early and I had the whole row of seats to myself, however travelling on a very old plane there was no entertainment system so that kind of sucked as the flight was 10 hours long.

At the airport I got ripped off from the currency exchange lady as she gave me an exchange rate of $ 1 AUD = 2.5 Zloty when the official rate was 1 = 3.5 so I am pretty sure she ripped me off big time

I stayed in a lovely private apartment in the old town for a great price of 60 euros per night. The old town is the most beautiful part of Warsaw and I spent most of my time there, as you might all know Warsaw was completely destroyed during world war 2 so outside of the rebuilt old town there isn't much in terms of historic significance apart from a few palaces and park.

Nice photos. I would love a chance to make it to Poland sometime. It sounds so cheap!

Good to see that some of the old city is left after the war. I was in Krakow a few months ago-- I wish I could've gone to Warsaw too.

Beautiful pictures, pallo! Thanks for sharing.

Warsaw is an amazing city. And your pictures are awesome! I would have liked to see pictures of Warsaw under the snow.

I´m wishing to visit Warsaw. It´s very nice as I can see. I like these cities placed in Central Europe. They´re very pretty.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

it's a shame the city was destroyed. At least the soviets built some of it back. You got some nice shots of the city. Funny you mention LOT. Ive had a few bad experiences with them. Warsaw - Hanoi is not a route i would expect to exist. Digging your round the world trip, how long were you on the road?

I was happy to find this amazing cafe/bakery while working around looking for breakfast in the morning. It's a bit hidden so it might be hard to find if you are a tourist, but it s just right next to starbucks

Their chocolate croissants are so good that I would have 2 every morning

Nothing of the old city was left after the war, it's a reconstruction.

Nice thread, great pictures, spent a week in Poland last May and it really is a beautiful place full of history and contrast.

And I got snow

Warsaw is an amazing city as it got the shit beat out of it by Hitler. After the war, they rebuilt a huge chunk of the historic core. Theres an amazing thread over at SSC about the revitalization of Warsaw and its still ongoing.

They're very successful, imo, because I find myself gazing at them. May as well be in a book or hanging on the wall of a travel agency.
