Awhile back I was able to find the daily newspaper distributed at the Olympic Village. Thought this would be fun to share. I have every days edition to share throughout the coming weeks.

p.s. I don't have a scanner big enough here at my house but have one at work. So for today I just took pics.... I will re-upload a more readable version later.

Brings back so many great memories. What an amazing 10 days in the history of SLC. I was downtown nearly every night attending free concerts at various venues, events at clubs and the concerts at the medals plaza. What a great time.

I am 100% behind a bid for the 2022. We staged the most successfull, most watched and most profitable Winter Olympics in history. Why not do it again? Since Jon Hunstman is out of the Presidential race, maybe he could spearhead the organizing committee along with his new duties at the Cancer Institute.

Opening Ceremonies

I was at the Opening Ceremonies. One of the best shows I've ever seen. We'd be amazed by one thing and then something else even more amazing would come next.

Too bad for me I was too poor to go to any of the events. Just came back from my waste of time LDS mission about two weeks before the games. I had no job and no money. Should of stayed home and saved up.

I remember driving around one night with the family around downtown. I've never seen so many people downtown. So much life and people. It was great.

Here's hoping for 2022, when that time around I'll have money.

I was actually a performer in the opening ceremonies - in the pioneer section just before the Dixie Chicks came on. I even told them "good job" when they were coming off stage. Lol. I also was part of the preshow for the Olympic Medals Plaza show with Steve Young (first half of the games) and Tracy Morgan (second half) hosting. It was really cool working with them. Steve Young was really nice, but I was kind of scared of Tracy. I also got tons of free tickets to the concerts for volunteering so it was really a very fun time for me. Last, I also had to take an entire two weeks straight off of school to film two music videos for the SLOC (they were totally dumb videos, turns out). It was my senior year of high school and I missed almost 70 days of school because of Olympic volunteer work. My family and I had tickets to the closing ceremonies, and that was actually the only part of the Games I attended instead of volunteering in. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to any sporting events because of my volunteer work. But the Games was truly one of the most amazing events in my life to this date, I met so many wonderful people and it really was a magical enivornment unlike any I've been in since. I would love for Salt Lake to bid for another games. I have TONS of Olympic merchandise, freebies, photos etc. in storage - perhaps sometime I'll try and post some of it here in the future.

Supposedly the mascots are going to be there too. If anyone sees them it would be great if you could take a pic and upload it to Wikipedia. We really need to be represented with a photo on the Olympic Mascot page. Unfortunately the photo I took of my stuffed animal versions of the mascots was removed (because the toys are a trademark, or something like that).

This is a great thread.

The 2002 Olympic Winter Games were only a few months away from 9/11.

I saw the water flowing in the cauldron today and gushing out the side. Not sure if they're just testing it or cleaning it.

This thread depresses me. I was 12 at the time and my only Olympic participation was going to Olympic Square once. I've always wished I'd done more. I did go to a Paralympic hockey game though.

As 10th anniversary of 2002 Winter Games nears, governor weighing another Olympic bid

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...-bid.html?pg=1

By Lisa Riley Roche, Deseret News

SALT LAKE CITY — As Utahns prepare to celebrate the passing of a decade since hosting the 2002 Winter Games, there's a new push to bid for a future Olympics.

Gov. Gary Herbert said he's involved in discussions and weighing the costs and benefits of making a bid to host the 2022 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, where the Olympic cauldron will be lit Wednesday evening to mark the 10-year anniversary...

..."I feel good as a Utahn about how we hosted the world and can claim we had the most successful and the most profitable, I might add, Winter Olympics," Herbert said. "I give it an 'A-plus-plus.'"....
