World Chess Hall of Fame Moves To St. Louis

St. Louis is growing a worldwide reputation for being the U.S. Chess Capital.

And after stints in New York state, Washington D.C. and Miami, The World Chess Hall of Fame opened on September 9, 2011 in Saint Louis in the Central West End, a bustling neighborhood located directly across the street from the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.

The World Chess Hall of Fame is housed in a historic 15,900 square-foot residence-turned-business and features the U.S. and World Chess Halls of Fame, displays of artifacts from the permanent collection, and temporary exhibitions highlighting the great players, historic games, and rich cultural history of chess. The WCHOF partners with the Chess Club and Scholastic Center to provide innovative programming and outreach to local, national, and international audiences.

The Hall of Fame will feature displays of artifacts from the permanent collection, and temporary exhibitions highlighting the great players, historic games, and rich cultural history of chess. In addition, it will commemorate the careers of its inductees and other important contributors to the history of chess. (Source)

This Hall of Fame has three floors of exhibits.

LOLOL!

Hey, anything that adds an additional institution, which is educational and intellectual in capacity and brings variety, publicity and entertainment to a region is a good thing. Believe it or not, this Hall of Fame and Museum has caused people and other related institutions (#2) (#3) to move to St. Louis.

I'm not a Chess player, but I think it is cool that the HOF & Museum has landed in the Midwest after being primarily on the Atlantic coast for most of its history.

Does this take the sting off of loosing the Bowling Hall of Fame to Texas? Yeah, say half of the sting.

Dallas can have the International Bowling Hall of Fame and Museum. The World Chess Hall of Fame and Museum has done more to elevate St. Louis' national and international prestige than the BHF ever did.

Here's a new article from the New York Times from just two days ago. A world-renown chess queen is moving her championship team to Webster University.

Yeah, the BHF was really low key, considering the Big Lebowski and everythang. It should have been a full fledged bowling alley. I do miss it being there a lot and it's an insult to the midwest that it left the...midwest, hugetime.
