Greenprint Midtown

Thought some of you might be interested in this. Apparently the Midtown Alliance is creating a sustainability plan for Midtown. A public overview and comment will be held at 999 Peachtree on March 1:

http://www.midtownalliance.org/Ecodistrict.htm

An overview of the initiative can be found here:

http://www.midtownalliance.org/Docum...t_overview.pdf

Quote:
Today, Midtown is uniquely positioned to become the South’s
first urban “eco-district.” It has the physical building blocks in
place to lead in this area including a pedestrian-friendly street
grid, a strong mix of land uses, robust transit options, and
significant green space. And Midtown property owners,
businesses and residents have already taken the initiative to
become more sustainable as evidenced by the growing portfolio
of LEED and Energy Star rated buildings, and their support of
Midtown Alliance’s existing “green” programs. These include
building walkable streetscapes and planting more than 650
trees, promoting transportation choices, and streetside
recycling.
What is missing is a district-level plan that defines a path
forward, prioritizes future action and defines the optimal role for
Midtown Alliance.

this sounds very cool! would love to see more shade trees planted, atlanta lost a ton of that in the years from 1950-2000. it would be nice to see more areas with trees and parks again.
