Free Press story made no mention of residential. Seems the reporter missed the real story. Either residential is going ahead, or its not (judging by Centrepoint not mentioning it) and that's the real news development.

They did say they are not sure yet if they will include or initially include the residential portion way back when they had the original presser for the project, but, for what its worth they still have a "residential" portion up on their website (its one of the 4 main points of the centrepoint)

It is however the only page that is still "under construction" (no pun intended)

This is kinda like Portage place when it was to get two towers.........I can see the Alt going up, but I see the single story building becoming a parking lot and maybe a 2-3 story parkade if they tear down the other block. UNLESS for once there is some vision here.

That's so awesome! Will there not be an excavation for this tower?

they don't dig very deep on buildings here due to high water tables and close proxinity to the bed rock

Those are some pretty large and long anchor bolts with the base plate in the bottom left corner of that picture. Perhaps they are getting ready to pour the tower crane base?

I was told that saving the facade of the Mitchell Copp Building was fairly easy for the builders as the masonry and facade itself was actually super thick and quite strong. There isn't nearly the same or complex steel bracing required here as was required for the RRC Princess St Campus buildings.

It is nice to see another large scale project downtown. I agree with all the supporters that say it is the retail and service type businesses that make a downtown work and unique, but there is just something about seeing big equipment, big excavation and tower cranes that is cool.

This is shaping up to be an exciting next couple of years for downtown big projects.

I think Alt is now far enough where it can be labelled under construction in the diagrams section no? Vid, you run that don't you? Is it ready to be changed?

We don't change a building to "under construction" status until the framework of the building starts to rise.

I can't give you an exact reason why, that is just how it is done.

Once they start erecting the steel or pouring concrete columns, let me know and I will update the building's profile. If there is anything else that can be added to the building's diagram page, let me know via PM and I will add it. If there are any other changes you want to see, PM me. Please include sources, as well. For status changes, simple photos will do, but any claims about the building (such as use or height) require some sort of secondary source, like a press release or news article.

I don't follow this discussion on a regular basis so if you post it here I will probably miss it.

From that last picture, it looks like something has started there, and if I am not mistaken, that machine looks like it is used to drive piles.
