Pac NW Plannergeek Honeymoon | Bonus thread: Cascades, Tacoma, etc

Pac NW Plannergeek Honeymoon
Seattle: Observation Deck Aerials | Downtown | Neighborhoods | Transportation
Portland: Downtown & Skyline | Neighborhoods | Transportation
Vancouver: Downtown | Neighborhoods | Transportation
Bonus Thread: Loose pictures of the Cascades, Tacoma, and elsewhere

Bonus thread

This is the last thread in my honeymoon series. It covers pictures from Tacoma, from the airplane, from the train, from the Seattle science fiction museum, and a few others.

From the airplane

Coming into Seattle we had a truly fantastic view of the Cascades.

Flying from DC to Seattle we stopped in Denver. Going back we stopped in Chicago.

Rocky Mountains:

Denver:

Fort Collins, CO:

Omaha, NE:

Bellevue, WA:

Spokane, WA:

These next three are all between Seattle and Chicago, but I couldn't identify them. Surely someone here can.

Not a rainbow, but a...

Wind farm.

Chicago bungalows.

There's a joke here.

From the Amtrak train:

These are all from the Amtrak Cascades.

The Alex Fraser Bridge, with New Westminster, BC in the background.

Just a sunset.

Tacoma, with the 21st Street Bridge.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Saint John's Bridge, near in Portland.

Sci-fi museum

The Seattle Experience Music Project museum has a sci-fi section, which IMO is way more awesome than the music section. The two big exhibits had stuff from Avatar and Battlestar Galactica.

"The dress"

The Galactica model from the original show.

Vipers

Adama's uniform.

Flight suit.

Park ship model.

The Book of Pythia.

The Avatar exhibit.

This is neat. It's like an ipad screen, but bigger.

Other loose pictures

Saw this at the Seattle Space Needle. Go SSP!

From Portland. Excellent.

I thought this was only legal in Nevada (ba dum bum).

That's all, folks. It's been fun. Thanks for all the kind words throughout.

Nice pictures. Those Cascade scenes from the plane are spectacular.

heck of a bonus, nice way to round it all out.

minor clarification: the st johns bridge is IN the city of portland. it's the last bridge across the willamette river before it empties into the columbia. the second-to-last is the BNSF railroad bridge 5.1, the bridge which amtrak crosses en route to union station, which it is 5.1 miles north of. st johns is a somewhat far flung neighborhood north of downtown, and the other side of the bridge is the northern end of forest park (which has over 5,000 acres and 80 miles of hiking trails).

if my vision is correct, the cascades you see in your first few pics are ...

(all left-right)
1. mount jefferson (OR), mount hood (OR), mount adams (WA)
2. mount adams, mount rainier (both WA)
3. mount hood
4. mount adams
5. mount rainier

my favorite thing about the oregon-oregon state rivalry is how oregon's "gang sign" (or "hand symbol" or whatever the hell they call it), to make the 'O' with both hands, is the universal sign language symbol for vagina ... thereby making this state's greatest rivalry the beavers vs the vaginas.

The one in the foreground is actually pattullo bridge. The one in the back of it is SkyBridge carrying SkyTrain into Surrey.

Pretty sure what you've got here are Sioux Falls, SD and Waterloo, IA. Sioux Falls is surprisingly big-feeling when you drive through.

Not sure on those prairie potholes (lakes) from South Dakota... there are so many, who can keep track?

(Not many forumers here from flyover country. I thought I'd better lend a hand on behalf of people from nowhere everywhere.)

As an Oregon alumnus, I never particularly cared for the 'O' hand sign, but an interesting bit of knowledge.

Great photos! Just a minor correction here, this is actually the SkyTrain Bridge ("SkyBridge") for the Expo Line, which is apparently the longest cable-supported transit-only bridge in the world [1].
