Place des Arts, the main performing arts centre in downtown Montreal, is the curved building to the right, and the museum of contemporary art is on the bottom left.

All of this fronts Ste-Catherine, Montreal's main street.

What a waste of "taxpayers" dollars...................or so they would say in Calgary.

Just kidding of course. That looks like a great space to spend a nice hot evening!

^ The abandonned building is being converted into something nice. I think they are supposed to install one of the largest screens in the world on the facade.

It does look a little forlorn. Surrounded by skyscrapers on all sides would give it that big city feeling that it's lacking right now. Are there height restrictions here as well or just in the CBD?

The place is brand new and was a no man's land until 2 years ago, it is still a work in progress. There are height restrictions but I don't know what they allow. There is a proposal for a 30 or 35 floors on the south side of Ste-Catherine.

La Place des Festivals and Le Quartier des Spectacles are turning out to be a complete success. It's still a work in progress. The 2-22 St-Catherine (the building with wood behing a glass facade) is part of the whole project.

Holy shit what a transformation. We have a wicked presentation from one of the urban designers here in Edmonton on it and even from when I was there 3 years ago it is quite different.

Congrats

This cannot be disputed. The only major downside is how they forced the concentration of all the festivals on the square! Juste pour rire on St-Denis was a classic, now I see a future where ALL the festivals will HAVE to be on la PDF!!!

Looks much better than an Aussie city, with all their massive spires/antennas on everything they build.
