Prince George hotel

Hey guys. I just came across this announcement that Developers are planning to build a 12 story hotel / condo downtown beside the library. This is huge for PG. No renders yet that I know of.

A rendering can be found at the following site,

http://www.opinion250.com/blog/view/...d?id=140&st=10

From the sounds of it the likelihood of this project going ahead is very high as they have secured a hotel operator. The design is nothing spectacular but it will definitely be an improvement.

Telus has also announced that they will be adding an additional 70 employees downtown. Telus will have almost 500 people working in the city, most of which are downtown.

The city has turned a corner, the number of vacancies downtown has plummeted with a number of new businesses opening up in the last few months.

We could see 2 cranes downtown in the next year as the wood innovation and design centre is going to be around 10 stories tall.

Wow this is fantastic and actually impressive news out of PG. Very exciting. Looks like the underdogs are starting to pick back up.

Very cool that two skyline changing towers will be UC in the city both at the same time! Maybe someone could make a future render of the PG skyline circa 2015?

I was at the tim hortons downtown and construction workers were putting up a couple of billboards. A city councilor said that Delta Hotel was going to be the anchor. This however has not been confirmed by any news outlets. The top 5 floors are going to be residential with units priced between $350,000 and $850,000. With a strong hotel anchor and financial backing of a few local dreamers it appears that this project has a decent chance of going ahead..

The project is apparently still alive with construction starting in September 2012. Rumour is that the hotel will be anchored by a 150 room Delta Hotel. The developer has stated that he has conditionally sold 3 of the "penthouse" units. They have started a webpage www.princegeorgecondos.ca.

This project is apparently still on track, they have confirmed that it will be 34 high end condos however they have not yet named the hotel chain, it has been rumoured to be Delta.

A variance request has been submitted for Monday's council meeting

I had a feeling also that it wouldn't be built untill next year as they haven't even cleared city approvals at this point and winter construction in Prince George is extremely expensive as all of the concrete has to be hoarded. I have a feeling that next year will be a very busy construction year however unless we can attract more workers to move up to PG the prices will keep being high and projects will keep get being put on hold or cancelled. We really need a third major contractor to set up shop. It would be nice if PCL, Bird, or Maple Reindeers would set up offices here.
