Madrid: Enjoying a pleasant spring walk along Juan Carlos I park
Hello again!
This morning I took a walk along Juan Carlos I park, enjoying the pleasant spring weather in the capital. Today we´ve reached 68ºF (20ºC) after yesterday when we reached only a highest of 52ºF (11ºC). So I decided to go out for a walk along this pretty park. This park is located in the northeast of the capital, and it was built in 1992. I hope you enjoy.
Campo de las Naciones business area, just in front of Juan Carlos I park.
A view from the park to Canillejas and San Blas districts.
Barajas International Airport is near the park, about 3 miles away. This is Terminal 4 Satellite Building, full of wide body planes of Iberia.
There´s a small train you can use to go all the way around the park. It´s free and it works on weekends.
Some fountains in the main square at the entrance of the park.
Sculpture called Manolona Opus 397.
Blossomed prunos.
Monument given to Madrid from Melilla.
Entrance to Three cultures gardens, inside the park.
Flowers and more flowers in these pretty gardens.
More views of the park, outside Three Cultures Gardens.
A pigeon in its nest.
This park is a very good place to practice canoeing.
In the background, Sierra de Guadarrama. Yesterday it snowed there.
Some flowers more along one of the channels of the park.
Some views of the park from one of its hills.
Residential building beside the park and the golf field.
Another esculpture in one of the grasslands of the park.
Lovely! I was going to be in Madrid a couple weeks ago, but a travel snafu kept me from visiting. These pictures make me even sadder that I didn't make it.
Danny - What's the name of the new park that replaces an old highway? I think it is quite new. The highway tore through an older part of the city and now it has been replaced with a linear park. Oh. and more pictures please.
Thanks for all your comments! I appreciate them much.

woodrow, the name of that park you mention is "Madrid Rio". As you´ve wroten, this park has replaced a part of the M-30 highway, which actually is subterranean, just under this new park. It´s placed beside Manzanares River, and that´s the reason of its name. I haven´t already visited this new park, but I hope to visit it soon. This park was inaugurated last year. It´s worth to visit it.
Nice pictures. Is there a height limit for buildings in Madrid (at least in this area)? They all seem to be about the same height, kind of like how the height limit in Washington DC has caused a buildout in many areas, with buildings all down certain streets being the same height.
