Perhaps another screening room for the Broadway Theaters, or Sundance. I had hoped the Children's Theater would have stayed downtown. There's nothing like a downtown location, amidst the highrises, that can boost a young performer's confidence and sense of credibility!

Nice design. And taller than I thought it would be.
My thoughts exactly!

I agree, with that said though, they really did an amazing job on renovating the old Avalon Theater in SSL. The lobby is incredible, it takes you back to the days of the "moving pictures", quite possibly very close to what the Avalon may have looked like when it opened.

Utah Theater tours

And to continue the theatre theme...

Utah Heritage Foundation is doing tours of the Utah Theater this summer and the next one is tomorrow morning. Page also has links to tours in Centerville and Park City.

I've heard rumors that the Utah Film/Media Arts Coalition (made up of Spy Hop, the Film Society, and the Film Center) is talking to LaPorte about using the Rex space. They, of course, are also players in UPAC too, so it'll be interesting to see where they end up.

I still think the Rex would be a great place for small concerts that come through Salt Lake.

Ugh...I took my older son with me last time...now the younger one might want to go. Do I expend Relationship Capital with my wife and try to get them down there (and out of chores?), do I try to talk her into it? We were just downtown last night. Ah, the choices that Familied Architecture Geeks need to make...

I saw that today--happened to be at Library Square, and saw all the VIPs walking away from the site; couldn't remember the name for the ceremony.

Yeah, part of me does wish they had stayed downtown, but the bigger part of me is glad that they've taken the Avalon and done such a great job of renovating it. Hopefully they'll be able to stay there for a long time, and get enough of an audience to justify it.

Taking my boys with me--we'll probably be there starting at about 10:45. I'm the one wearing a Kermit the Frog shirt. Because some things don't change.

Awesome pic. T-Mac. It was a beautiful night downtown. It felt great to not be so hot, and we got in the car right before the rain came. I continue to be happy with how many people are walking around downtown. Not as much as there could be, but way more than there used to be.

My wife and I went to the tour of the Utah Theater this morning and had a great time. After that we went to City Creek and had lunch at the food court. While at the Utah Theater we ran into Jedikermit and his boys. It was good to stop and visit with him. He is teaching his kids well about construction and historical preservation. Fun to run into other forumers. Photos coming later this weekend on the classic salt lake city forum.

Yeah, the Rex would be good for that... but the Utah Theater would be even better for smaller concerts, like an indoor Twilight series.

A week of camping with the family and I come back to nothing new. I am disappointed in you all.

P.s. jedikirmit, Adam showed me your little people and a YouTube video.

Hey folks, I'm not a regular commenter in the SLC forums but I came across a plan from UDOT to install "flex-lanes" along 5400 South. I watched the video and it's nuts! There seems like way too much room for error with this... The yellow "in transition" phase especially seems like it lends itself to ambiguity to drivers unfamiliar with the corridor. What do you all think? Good idea, bad idea? What's the speed limit along this stretch because I can't imagine there not being some head-on wrecks as people figure this out! The other downside I see is the fact that it really clutters up the road with all those overhead signs, as there have to be enough for drivers to always have one visible.

Of course on the plus side, UDOT is maximizing the road capacity for minimal cost...

Here's the link to the video and info on the project: http://www.udot.utah.gov/flexlanes/

Yea I've been a bit worried about this as well. Knowing how us "Utah Drivers" drive I'm sure there will be some head-on wrecks while people have to learn how it works. I drove on 5400 South the other week as crews were placing these new "Flex lights" every 200 feet ( just a guess ) or so. But I haven't seen them on as of yet. Not sure when these "Flex lanes" open.
