Hexham, England

Hexham is a typically idyllic English market town with a population of about 11,000 it is located 30 Minutes west of Newcastle upon Tyne by car or train and is surrounded by lovely countryside.... and as a bonus it has a 13th Centry Abbey in the centre!

Hexham Old Gaol below is one of the oldest surviving prisons in England, it was completed in 1333.

Fore Street is the towns main pedestrianised shopping street

View from the park

Need a break after all this walking

The Jag adds a little extra class!

Nice little cinema still open

Rather imposing house!

Nice little Alfa

Nice pictures! It's good to see some other parts of England on here. It looks like there's a ton of history in Hexham and the countryside.

Wow, I had no idea this town even existed. Brilliant shots. I like the gaol especially, not many buildings around from that time that aren't churches.

Thanks again for these shots and tour across that pretty town.

Hexham looks very nice and quiet. I like its architecture and green parks. It´s very pretty indeed. I´d like to visit someday.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

What? No vinyl-clad bungalows? How depressing. I digress...

Thanks for waking me up to the existence of Hadrian's Wall in England. I had no idea there was such a monumental relic of roman rule left in the country. In the Wiki article about it, there is speculation about it being covered in plaster to make it stand out over the landscape. A fascinating discovery for me.

Beautiful pictures, and I love the Sycamore Gap shot - and the name. Very cool.

montréaliste, if you don't have much background in it, I highly recommend listening to The History of Rome podcast series. Brilliant stuff that will fill in all the important gaps you might have in core Western Civilization knowledge. Best podcast series I've ever listened to!
