Children across the city have come home screaming there is something strange and glowing in the sky, UFO reports rock the airwaves, and people come outside, blinking in the light. It is HOT and SUNNY. Enough to make the headlines, 24 hr live streaming news as the drama unfolds. An unofficial public holiday grips the country as thousands call in sick with inexplicable symptoms, unrelated to the UEFA match. Billions are lost.

mawr from today, 30C.

If you can find Parliament Hill there are amazing views to be had at the top

one of 14 viewing corridors to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites - no tall buildings are allowed to impinge on these swathes across the city,
notably from here to the dome of St Paul's Cathedral.

Superb shots - I especially love the ones with the sun low in the sky, flooding the streets and bouncing off puddles - that feels like London's signature look, more than any single building.

South Kensington

Mews houses, former stables behind grand houses that sell for millions. The tiny one or two bed houses
behind (stoop to get through the door) go for $6 million. Just a garage here can sell for $1.25 million.

the whole stables house is about a metre wide - it's not a wedge. The 40-60 bed mansion blocks these once serviced sell
for tens of millions, but almost all have been profitably subdivided up into apartments (one intact was offered $200 million
in 2007, which would have made it the worlds most expensive property - but the owners refused).

Exhibition Road - the council is experimenting with a 'shared surface' where cars and pedestrians combine. It
was once a maze for walkers and drivers alike, with repeated crossings, stop lights, noise and pollution. The result
now is many cafe tables parked where once cars used to zoom past, and the space decidedly claimed back for pedestrians.

Light vents for the Victorian tunnels that once herded pedestrians to the great museums nearby, and miss the confusing
street layout.

the cars now crawl through, while the pedestrians pay attention - and the streets are much more safer...

Village London

- the city is famously made up of dozens of villages overtaken over the centuries but that still survive as pockets in the urbanity.
They're closely guarded secrets by local residents in the know, and quite a surprise for a random visitor.

First clue, the tube station accessed through a wood:

Some scenes you can't believe you're in the city still

Ah, that's the end of Old Compton St in Soho, where it bisects onto Charing X Rd. That corner building (Ed's) is taken up by a local institution - an old skool American diner.
