Cool Austin as I see it

Hello, everyone. I'm Haux. You may, but probably don't, remember my thread about Amarillo, Texas, and the space shuttle that landed there aboard a 747 in 2009.

But I live in a new city now. An exciting city. A city where stuff happens and there are actual skyscrapers and urban transit and things to see and do. I moved to Austin in late August 2011 to take a job at the Austin American-Statesman. It's a temporary job, but it was too good to pass up.

Now, I'll start this thread with just an assortment of photos. I'll later branch out to individual topics like Barton Creek, the 360 bridge and the top of the Austonian.

Anyway, I've written too many words without any pictures, so here's Austin as I see it.

Austin's called Silicon Hills, comparing it to Silicon Valley because of the high-tech industry here.

The Lady Bird Lake hike-and-bike trail is a 10-mile trail around the lake. I love it.

Fantastic! Trying to think of which one I like best and I can't. lol. I like them all.

Maybe the "Skyscrapers and Stacks" one. The one that looks from Seaholm down to 2nd Street area. It is certainly not the prettiest one of yours, but I love it. Also the one from Ann Richards Bridge (trying to get used to not calling it Congress. lol) looking at Rainey Street area where Waller empties. That one is very pretty.

I can't wait to see your Barton Creek and other pictures. You are very good. I wish I could take pictures like that.

I spent one year in Austin in 2000 and haven't been back since. Lots of buildings I don't recognize. I need to schedule a trip back some day.

I caught the tail end of a TV news story last week saying some type of fencing was being installed to discourage pedestrians (i.e. taggers) from accessing this train bridge. (At least I think it was this bridge.) The graffiti is usually pretty good on this bridge and much better than the "railroad rusty brownish, blackish" color.
