Buda Buda Buda Rocking Everywhere

So the final stop on my happy times Europe trip. If you're bored, you can check out London, Prague, Bratislava and Vienna. If you're not bored, good for you.

If you ask me, Budapest is pretty awesome and probably my favorite stop. Make sure you check out some fun night time drinking in the ruin pubs and buy plenty of Eros Pista

I do love my communist era pagodas bars in a park

I bet the Chain Bridge could beat up the Charles bridge

DSC_3414.jpg by the pope UO, on Flickr

So, unlike most of the other former communist areas, Budapest kept most of its communist era statues and moved them way out to a park out in the burbs. Images scattered throughout the thread

This lame pictures is to show the interesting blinds on many of the buildings in Budapest. At first I thought these buildings were boarded up, but then realized my hotel also had them. Very effective at blocking out the sun.

That other bridge

DSC_3608.jpg by the pope UO, on Flickr

I don't know why I'm so drawn to communist era stuff. The locals, for good reasons are not. I only encountered Americans at the park.

DSC_3618.jpg by the pope UO, on Flickr

Still, a lot was destroyed, stolen and I don't blame 'em

DSC_3623.jpg by the pope UO, on Flickr

Lord knows where I'm at now. Maybe in City Park?

This thread is the equivalent of "Call Me Maybe," minus the song.

Thanks for your very good pics and comments, the pope.

When I visited Budapest, I liked it very much. It´s a very pretty city, with a really beautiful parliament. Its underground is the second oldest underground metro system in the world. It´s worth to visit Budapest, Buda and Pest. I don´t want to forget the Chain Bridge over the Danube. It´s one of the prettiest bridges in the world.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

Yeah, i was surprised to learn that the ol' M1 was the 2nd oldest line in the world. It was amusing to me that apparently they've never updated the stations (lengthening them, that is). It was odd seeing those smaller 2-car trains fit perfectly in there.

There was something about Budapest I just couldn't put my finger on. It was very different from my previous stops in climate, people and layout of the city. In an odd way, when I think of quintessential european street scenes, Budapest kinda fit that mold.

Thanks to everyone else for swingin' by.

I've enjoyed your tour through Europe. Another quality thread. I had a great time when I was in Budapest back in '09. The ruin bars were by far my favorite part of the trip. I also liked visiting the famous baths in the park. Good to sweat out all the beer and unicum from the night before.
