Interesting, and would have a real presence right next to the Queensway. Of course everyone will scream that it's too high, but honestly, it's on a parking lot abutting the Queensway, with a gas station across the street. Let's get real - there's little 'heritage' on Catherine Street.

203 Catherline actually puts it mid-block between Bank and O'Connor. SoOCo, anyone?

Odd/Bizarre/Hideous? Yes, yes, yes!

I don't mind new and modern, but please make it look like a single vision. This does indeed look like they took two renderings and just stuck them together. No continuity. No flow. Poor design.

I don't understand. People get down on developers like Claridge for putting out some of their bland/cheap buildings and then when someone brings in something like this it's considered poor design. Ottawa can't be pleased. Personally, I'd take designs like this any day over some of the stuff we have in this city.

I had the same reaction. I like the overall size and the podium looks pretty good. I dislike balconies generally, but on a building abutting the Queensway they seem particularly pointless.

It seems that balconies are considered a requirement in the Ottawa market. FWIW, I think the treatment of the balconies in this case is exceptional and actually makes a bit of an architectural statement rather than feeling as though they are an awkward addition to the building.

It looks like it's a true mixed use with ground floor retail, some commercial and residential above. If so, then I am mightily pleased.

I don't mind the three styles. It gets the residential looking portion high enough to avoid the queensway noise.
