Idaho Falls, Idaho | The Elegant City along The Snake River

I shot the photos earlier this month and all are of the downtown Idaho Falls area. I am pretty sure this is the first photo thread of I.F. on SSP so I have put together a few facts of the city and also a few links to Idaho Falls history if anyone is interested. Idaho Falls is located in South Eastern Idaho on Interstate 15, 290 miles west of Boise and 52 miles north of Pocatello.

Idaho Falls. Founded 1864

Idaho Falls 57,646 Metro: 132,073
Idaho Falls - Blackfoot CSA: 178,025

History:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idaho_Falls,_Idaho
http://greater-yellowstone.com/Idaho-Falls/

Interesting Facts:
The Snake River begins in Yellowstone National Park near Idaho Falls and enters Idaho south of Jackson Hole.

Idaho Falls is home to one of the largest concentrations of tech pros in the Rocky Mountain region.

The city generates its own electricity via the falls on the river in downtown.
http://www.idahofallsidaho.gov/city/...c-project.html

Idaho Falls is the base city for the Island Park area including Mesa Falls and the Teton Valley; the Idaho side, and some of the worlds best fly fishing on the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River, Idaho, north of town.

Regional commerce center and largest city in the Greater Yellowstone area of Eastern Idaho, far Western Wyoming and SW Montana and is a major gateway to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks as well as the Caribou-Targhee National Forests of Eastern Idaho. If you are mauled by a bear in Yellowstone chances are you will end up at the hospital in Idaho Falls.

Major beer plants in the area are Grupo Modelo SA de CV, Anheuser-Busch, and Budweiser. The agricultural areas around the city includes thousands of acres of barley grown for beer. Idaho is the number 2 barley producing state.

Enough, so on to the rest of the photos.

Stunning photos, as usual! Idaho Falls appears to have a strong college-town ambiance. I like the interesting public-art benches in several photos.

very nice thread and good eye for architecture. I stayed the night there once at a old college friend's house on my way to my brothers in Hailey. I never explored the town though. I missed a lot it seems.

Thanks for posting this! You not only captured the beautiful parts of downtown but also some of the less appealing parts. It is amazing to me how far downtown has come just in the last five years and there is more to come as far as revitalization.

Currently Memorial Drive is in the process of being rebuilt, Marriott is close to opening and the sorely needed replacement of the D Street underpass is close to its start date.

Thanks again!

Great thread. It's too bad there aren't more people in this region that appreciate the charm and value of urban life. Though small, the historic downtown area has sooo much potential. Thanks for showcasing it. As someone who spends a lot of professional and volunteer time advocating for the town's cultural health, I appreciate your images. Drop me a line next time you are coming into town and I will give you a tour or two of some of IF's most impressive interiors.

Thanks for this thread and as usual you have done a fabulous job. I have always thought of Idaho Falls as a really nice little city or town, very well kept, big on the arts. I have been to all of the major cities in the greater Yellowtone area of Id, Mt, and Wy and Idaho Falls is the nicest city by far in my opinion and has the most potential. What is going on with Memorial Drive?

Idaho Falls has some awesome buildings! I would not have guessed. I'm curious about nearby Pocatello.

Idaho Falls is impressive and Pocatello is a gold mine. The city once was the largest rail center in the west and prospered big time during its early years. I should have some Pocatello photos to post soon.
