City Planning - Road Layouts, does it make a difference ?

In personal experience, having never driven a car before, I don't know what the pros and cons of each system are. How do you personally feel about them, or have you personally only driven on Grid systems, would they seem to be easier to navigate ?

Which do you think looks better aesthetically speaking ?

Look at this image. It makes a HUGE difference whether you have an arterial/local system (top) or an interconnected network system (bottom):



It makes much much less of a difference whether you have a strict grid or an organic web. Some people will say the organic web is a little bit better, but the difference is minimal compared to the arterial vs network.
