Ugh. Occasionally I'll see a thread that will cause me to want to change vacation plans. Super annoying.

Thanks a lot, Asheville. Now I want to visit you again for my birthday and eat lots of cheeses and guzzle lots of Asheville beer and play in the river.

It's an honor to have been someplace you havent. :0 I think you would find some freaky parallels to Portland, but with like real southern cooking (screendoor in PDX was just ok...don't ask me why the first restaurant I went to in the pacific nw was a southern cooking spot...........) and of course smaller and surrounded by the south. Waters good, beers good, foods good. Definitely a type of magnet for people from throughout the eastern US, or at least the southeast.

Those mountains are neat, and in the higher elevations have a vaguely Coast Rangey feel, but with more milky golden warm sunshine pouring through the mist. I believe it is actually considered temperate rainforest in spots around Asheville - it's quite unlike the rest of the southeast.

Looks really cool actually. I like it. Is it cheap to live there?

This was definitely awesomeness!

Compared to Houston, it wouldn't be unless you're in a very select few fields of work. When you compare housing costs to the average wages paid by employers around here, Asheville is actually the most expensive place to live in all of North Carolina.

Unfortunately sad, but true.

Even the infamous & reviled Thad & Bitsy from suburban Atlanta have been priced out and forced to de-camp for the Greater Franklin/Murphy area to save a little $$$.

Thankfully, they have wealthy relations that allow them to visit occasionally in Bat Cave.

Great pics, LSyd - thanks!

Coming from a Londoner, that is indeed very high praise. Thank you.

Thank you also to everyone who took a look at my hometown through LSyd's excellent photos.

Great set!

Are those overhead shots at the beginning (which are badass, btw) from a publicly accessible perch?

sort of. you need a room/access to the top floor of the renaissance hotel.
