Smile NEW YORK | 11 East 31st Street | 33 FLOORS

Quote:
The empty lot is the future home of a 33-story hotel, which will have 260 rooms. The specific name of the hotel is still undisclosed, although SDG has brought in Thompson Hotels as a partner on the project.
Unremarkable, not heinous I guess...

Slightly better than the usual hotel trash that goes up.

I like the top with the grid looking like (or actually) it's being hoisted by those wires.

Considering it's Gene Kauffman, we should be happy. It's not bad actually, especially when compared to his typical architectural abortions.

New York YIMBY:

Revealed: 11 East 31st Street
BY: NIKOLAI FEDAK ON JANUARY 28TH 2014 AT 12:30 PM

Quote:
Construction is finally moving along at 11 East 31st Street, which will soon be a 33-story and 260-room boutique hotel. Simon Development Group and Cube Capital are building the project, while Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman is the architect of record. The plan is a definite departure from the Emerald City-inspired design initially planned several years ago.
...

Per on-site signage, completion is expected in the spring of 2016, and the project’s working name is Cuisie 31. After a long wait, excavation seems to have begun, so it does appear things are finally moving forward.

From January 9th, 2015, a year since last update on this:

NoMad’s Commune Hotel Reaches Street Level, Will Feature a Public Roof Deck at 300 Feet

Quote:
After lying fallow for years, the site of the city’s first Commune Hotel at 11 East 31st Street is abuzz with construction activity and has risen to street level. Developed by Simon Development Group, Cube Capital, and Eagle Point Hotel, the 250-room, 32-story hotel situated between Fifth and Madison Avenues will be among a dozen new residential and hotel developments slated to transform the once-sleepy NoMad neighborhood.

With Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman Architects serving as the design architects and Mancini-Duffy Architecture as the architects of record, the slender 335-foot tower will feature a 125-seat restaurant, lounge, and a rooftop bar providing sweeping skyline vistas and front-row views of the Empire State Building.

Looks like this popped out unnoticed. Glass and everything from ground to roof was added.

So many projects that some threads go 8 months without a post.
