Some great photos - I'd like them even more if there were some captions so we knew what we were seeing And any thread about Birmingham makes me miss Randy Sandford - RIP.

Great photo thread, Thundertubs!! I have to say though, That is one gritty looking city. There were many more buildings than I thought that looked deserted. Hopefully, something good happens to them. Interesting note..Birmingham didn't exist till after the Civil War. Kind of unusual for a large southern industrial city.

One word: Un-tapped potential. Okay, two words. Either way, great shots of an underrated city.

Great shots! This is somewhere I've always wanted to visit, and these photos made me want to even more. Nice grit, too.

Good to see you layin' it down in the Souf. B'ham, as others have noted, is full of potential.

It looks like a very solid, well built city. My ex gf lived there for a couple years and said there is a lot of poverty.

So what has happened since 2010 to keep people out of downtown Birmingham?

First time I've seen a thread with such good closeups of all those architectural gems. Beautiful natural setting as well.

Thanks!

I like the focus on the older parts of downtown versus that more modern area (19th St?). Thanks!

Excellent thread! I like how you included close-ups in the mix.
Is the Leer Tower empty?

Birmingham looks beautiful and surprisingly gritty. I love the pictures.

Birmingham has been known as the "Pittsburgh of the South."

We really haven't seen too much of Birmingham that I recall since when Randy Sandford (RIP) was still here.

Fantastic stuff
