I noticed the building beside Mayberry on McDermot sold to a single tenant. There’s a sign in the window saying who’s next? With a jets and hot 103 logo. Not sure if that means a radio station bought it. Or the current tenant is a jets fan.

Hot 103 suggests early-aughts retro. It's been Virgin 103 for about 10 years.

There's also now Hot 100._ lol. I would be blown away if Bell was going to relocate radio to the Exchange. Would be a cool use to have a studio that you could see into right on the street though.

That would be cool but in general radio isn't really something that livens up a streetscape...it's essentially just an office. I guess we'll find out soon!

From the FP breaking news on downtown safety:

Summit looks for ways to improve downtown safety
05/7/2018 7:46 AM

Winnipeg's Business Improvement Zones are hosting a downtown Winnipeg safety summit today.

The invitation-only event features speakers from Winnipeg and other cities, including Calgary and Minneapolis, that are trying to make their downtowns more safe, welcoming and inclusive, a news release from the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ said.

Mayor Brian Bowman will provide opening remarks to kickstart the day-long summit being held at the RBC Convention Centre.

Its goal is to lay out constructive recommendations and identify a series of short-term safety projects that can be implemented immediately, the release said.

lmao really? I haven't even noticed this and must totally ignore the building.

They should at least rig the cardboard cutouts up with wires and motors so they appear to be having a party, Home Alone-style.

Here's the lowdown on 214 Mcdermot. Apparently it was formerly the Criterion Hotel.

Says it's between Main and Rorie. I knew that couldn't be right so I google mapped it. It's between Main and Albert.

Isn't it amazing how a former hotel and heritage structure can be renovated and maintained in a way that contributes to the area. I wonder where else that could be done in the Exchange District ...

Walked past there yesterday and saw interior work has been going on... big refuse chute coming out the back of the plain 1940s side. Can't imagine what kind of time capsule that place would be on the inside.

Interesting history, the original building went up in 1885. The part that looks like a little box was built in 1950 after a fire burned down that part. Who is developing it?

The floor of the Porter Condos deck on Rorie got finished this week – the stairs are painted steel... seems like it will be awful when wet or icy. Anyone know if there's going to be some sort of fence along it as I believe was originally proposed?

--

Also scaffolding has gone up from top to bottom in front of 137 Bannatyne – looks like maybe some masonry repointing?

The Porter building stairs and ground suite entries still look horrible. I can't believe this can be the finished product. Huge disappointment with this piece of the development.
