SHENZHEN | Projects and Developments

Goal: Documenting projects and developments for Shenzhen,China. Front page is a work in progress as it will be a little work compiling all the projects. This thread will serve to document projects that are 200ft or greater. One of the fastest growing cities in China, there are many projects going up that are of interest to city lovers, engineers, architects, ect.

I noticed SSP does not have a compilations thread for this city. I want to attempt to bring a little more focus onto this city in order to build a collection of projects in a neat and organized manner.

When a project is under construction, I will update the front list along with the proposals.

One Shenzhen Bay is by-far my favorite on the list. I hope there is plenty of coverage of this tower on the forum during construction.

The Southern Bosera's rather creative.

A lot of projects all at once. No one could do this in the US.

One Shenzhen Bay and Tencent Coastal Tower are pretty amazing, though the name of the latter is a bit quizzical. Some really creative stuff going on here. Can't wait to see some construction pics of these projects.

Added a list of completed skyscrapers. Still working on that list over time. Its incredible how much has gone up in the last 5-10 years.

Update: Fixed some images that didn't go through. Added one for a supertall that didn't show. Will continue the completed section up to 400 ft or so.

MAJOR PROJECT:
============

Shenzhen's Qianhai financial district

Quote:
The first of the two masterplans will provide over 460,000 square-metres of commercial floorspace, including offices, shops, serviced apartments and luxury homes. A 320-metre skyscraper will be built as part of the proposals, alongside a pair of 185-metre gateway towers.
Qianhai (New City) Masterplan:

You can see in the middle the financial district posted in the top portion of the post:

Details:

Quote:
We’ve heard a lot about James Corner Field Operations particularly due to the High Line in New York. But, now the firm is taking their talent across the world to China where they have just won the prestigious Urban Design Competition to design a new major city, Qianhai. The firm placed ahead OMA/Rem Koolhaas, BLAU Architecture and Urbanism, Bjarke Ingles Group, and SWA among dozens of others for the win.

Sponsored by the Planning Land and Resources Commission of Shenzhen, the panel included international experts in the fields of architecture, planning, landscape and urban design. The panel envisioned this new city, Qianhai, to function as a major new urban center and wanted the design to link Hong Kong to Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

For the allotted 4,500 acres, JCFO has designed a “Water City” for 1.5 million people which centers around the city’s most important resource – water. Five “Water Fingers” divide the massive site into manageable sub-districts. The fingers extend from the existing rivers and channels and function as both innovative hydrological infrastructures and new public parkland. They process and remediate stormwater, while expanding the amount of development frontage onto public open spaces that structure and organize the larger city.

Within each of the sub-districts, the fabric is designed in the conventional scale of a typical Shenzhen block and inter-connected with urban neighborhoods. In this hyper-dense design, the city will retain an ecologically sensitivity while also becoming an iconic waterfront.

Essence Financial Building

Quote:
OMA has won the design competition for the Essence Financial Building in Shenzhen, China. Led by OMA Partners David Gianotten and Rem Koolhaas, the design beat out four other entries by international and Chinese practices.

The skyscraper will be OMA’s second in Shenzhen (the first being the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, which will be completed in April this year). By challenging many typical office tower conventions (such as a central core plan and curtain wall systems), OMA hopes their buildings will help lead the way for a “new generation” of office towers in the city.

As David Gianotten commented in the Press Release: ”OMA is very excited about its continuous and deepening participation in Shenzhen’s development, especially as the city makes its latest evolution: from a manufacturing city into a services hub. This next generation of urbanism calls for a new generation of office towers of which the Essence Financial Building could be one.”
