Cool Go West, Young Lesbians!

GO WEST, young lesbians!

This past weekend I drove 1,920 km (1,193 miles) to the west coast of Newfoundland, did lots of running around out there, and back again to St. John's. It was spectacular.

Along the way, I visited Corner Brook - the main focus of this thread.

It's Newfoundland's fourth city, and the only one that isn't a part of the capital city region. A company town of around 25,000 people, it is by far the largest community on the island outside of the St. John's Metro.

Being such a fantastic distance from our main population base on the Avalon Peninsula means it offers a little more than most municipalities of its size in our little corner of the world.

The reason for my excursion around the bay was to attend a wedding. My friends Sarah and Erica finally tied the knot - at Erica's grandfather's cottage in a small farming community near the west coast. It was a wonderful occasion.

Excluding my trip to Boston a couple of years ago, this is the furthest I've ventured yet for an SSP photo thread. Hope you enjoy this glimpse at the beauty of the west coast and the people who live there.

And now, the reason I was there...

When I saw Blow Me Provincial Park, I had to check Google Maps to make sure you weren't Photoshop bullshitting us, and I'll be damned, it's a real place.

Great set.

Thanks for doing the research I was too lazy too. Seriously Newfoundland. Do we have to take away your naming privileges?

The countryside totally looks like the area around Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario in general. Much younger though.

It's actually Blow-Me-Down Provincial Park, someone must have altered the sign or photo and is having a little fun!

Thank you, guys!

Yeah, it's supposed to be Blow Me Down.

But more hilariously: Spread Eagle Park is just outside Dildo.

A few more pics, set to their wedding song. And a couple of awkward video clips at the end.

Ah crap. Somebody beat me to the Dildo reference. Sigh.
Nice set. I really really love the composition on the 6th photo.
Don't quite know why buy Newfoundland and even St. John,N.B. has become home for about 5 of my gay couple friends over the last 15 years.
Something is going on that we heteros are not being made aware of.

Phil:

Saint John, New Brunswick, is gorgeous. It's a perfect little chunk of a city that was intended to be far larger. If you want something small, but still urban, it's a perfect choice.

As for us, whatever the causes for being gay - whether it's genetic, hormonal, whatever - we have quite a lot of it. I know so many families here where all the children are gay (including the more masculine bride in the wedding above).

And it's not just anecdotal:

Black = I am gay.
Royal Blue = A member of my immediate family is gay.
Teal = I know someone who is gay.

All very high in Atlantic Canada. And I bet if you removed New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, the percentages would increase significantly.

Halifax has only 400,000 people and regularly gets more than 100,000 at its Pride parade. Some estimates of the gay population in St. John's have been near 30%.

Aww, thank you! If you visit and need a tour guide, PM me!

And BTW, the capital city is even nicer - despite its less impressive setting:
