hkskyline's 2015 in Zhengzhou, China

Located in the middle of the country, Zhengzhou probably doesn't get on the average tourist's radar. This is a major transportation hub in the country, and rich in history since the area was the core of the ancient Chinese civilization. Not much of that history stands today, but the artifacts dug up from the area are readily available for viewing in the local museums.

Zhengzhou's high-speed trains that connect with Beijing and Wuhan pass through a new station built in the eastern outskirts. A new town has sprung up around it.

The streets aren't so exciting although there is some limited retail and food options available.

Greenland Plaza is the tallest building in the city. Standing at 280m tall and set amidst a park, it is an example of a planned community much like Futian and Pudong.

Back in the old city, the public squares are vast spaces surrounded by neon at night.

The metro system currently consists of 1 line that opened in late 2013, traveling east to west and connecting the city's 2 main railway stations. Looks like many more expansions are planned.

Next part - museum collections

Henan Museum boasts a huge assortment of artifacts dug up from the local area. Start at the Longshan and Yangshao cultures of the Neolithic age, which dates from at least 4000 years ago.

Inscriptions can be found on oracle bones from the Shang Dynasty, which give us a glimpse of life in ancient China.

Zhou Dynasty

Warring States Period

Spring and Autumn Period

Han Dynasty

The Han ended in 220 AD.

The Shang Dynasty is a distant era from over 3000 years ago. The old city walls are all that remains visibly on today's cityscape. Located in the heart of today's modern city, you can climb up it and enjoy the views as the zone has been turned into a park.

In South Asia, there were lots of tuk-tuks. In Zhengzhou, you see a slight improvement with these covered carts.
