I walked by the site today and it looks like they've started drilling or some sort of excavating.

Tough to say what's going on, although no digging, there are a couple of pieces of bigger equipment, and more people, on the site

The lot that was until now long term vacant: bounded by Beatty-Nelson-Expo Blvd across the street from the Arc site.

Well construction has definitely started on this one. Great to see another parking lot gone.

Yeah speaking of parking lots, whats up with that social housing building that was supposed to be on the triangular shaped lot to the south west of this project? where the big red ring is

I wonder what they are doing here with the Arc? Certainly this is a huge building with several levels of parking. Is there something different about the soil here? Usually they'd just start digging.

I remember the neighbouring Concord project drove steel piles (or drilled and filled with concrete) and corrugated steel panels, to form a perimeter wall before they began excavation.

My first guess might be about the water level, or preventing landslides depending on the soil type.

However these are the Expo lands, old industrial sites with contaminated soil. It probably is just to stop heavy metals leeching in.

Could be that the soil is a bit looser in that area or they just need to drive some piles to keep the onramp to the bridge stable.

Little more progress, but not much, on the dig for the Arc

One regret I have with this site is that the ramps on either side don't have sidewalks on the inner sides over the site. So, no good views looking down from the ramp. Unless you're daring or crazy or can take a good pic from a moving vehicle.

Some serious soil engineering going on here. Does anybody know what is happening? They were out working last night at about 6pm.
