Vancouver, BC: Views, buildings, density and rainbow cake

I went to Vancouver for 3.5 days during a trip to Seattle in May. First time in Vancouver. First time in Canada even.

No delay at the border...

First stop was the Museum of Vancouver where I saw this model and learned about the Woodward's building redevelopment. That's something to look out for downtown...

The museum has a beautiful exhibit of the neon signs that once proliferated in the city:

Views from Vanier Park behind the museum:

Taking the SkyTrain downtown:

The following views were taken from the Vancouver Lookout observation deck.

Holy Rosary Cathedral:

Sun Tower:

The Dominion Building, Vancouver's first steel-framed high rise:

Aha, now I see that Woodward's Building I saw the model of at the museum! Woodward's department store closed in 1993 and the site was redeveloped between 2006 and 2009. The oldest building on the site was retained, along with a replica of the "W" sign that replaced a searchlight beacon in 1944.

Mount Baker and the Burnaby skyline in the distance:

Couldn't resist a couple of tilt shifts:

Chinatown:

The Dominion Building from ground level:

Next few shots are of the beautiful Art Deco Marine Building:

Sea planes in the harbour:

Grouse Mountain:

Lion's Gate Bridge from Stanley Park:

Granville Island:

Ocean Concrete silos on Granville Island:

Granville Bridge from Granville Island:

Granville Island market:

Excellent tour, looks like you hit a lot of places.

Great pictures! There's a few pictures that really caught my eye, or brought up some questions.

Three cool things are the sign for how I-5 becomes BC 99, the gas station in the middle of the water, and the bridge by Vanier Park.

I also like how you showed a good amount of Vancouver's older buildings. Too often, we see the cookiecutter condos. Where were those places like the Dominion Building, Holy Rosary Cathedral, etc?

I also liked the views from different spots.

All in all, it looks like the kind of trip I would make! Nice!

Thanks for all the comments. I guess the older buildings stood out to me as my expectation was a city of modern condo towers. I was so glad I picked up a certain visitor guide that mentioned the Marine Building lobby as I wasn't aware of it in advance.
