I saw them but that's only because my family lived near hills in Pomona (literally right next to one). There's too many people, so rats are all over SoCal but not to the extent of roaches (which, ironically, I saw little of in my years of living in/visiting Pomona). I did see more in Carson though.

For some reason Fox News has been “exposing” er.. reporting on the supposed rat population explosion in big cities with high (honestly reported) homeless populations. Typical diversion, overhype, smear campaign? I would guess it’s more like the growth in urban restaurants.

I think the problem is we have some cities that refuse the address the problem with a robust rodent control program, along with a growing tolerance and growing population of homeless people that would easily contract communicable diseases originating from rodents.
