haha...I didn't think the competition was really tight there.

it would be odd to have it face the lake rather than the park if its being buit immediately on the park itself. But again, I'd have to disagree with home-run.

Hey. Here's a great place to go to watch the OMP's daily progress. It's a panable webcam from the top of the Adler Planetarium.

Here's a sample pic:

i really like the design of this a lot... a possible home-run (for a residential high-rise)
"Orientation" meaning the direction the bulge faces, as in what everyone has been discussing for the last page...not a value judgment on the design, which I like A LOT.

SolarWind, I've got to say it: With eyes as good as yours prowling around, I'm starting to wonder if it's redundant to even leave the house....

A few of OMP:

From LSD in Grant Park

From Northerly Island

In front of Field Museum (sorry it's sideways, but I can't get that corrected. It looks straight in all photo things I have)

No worries honte, your post total gives you seniority over most of us anyways!

The only retail that i am aware of is in tower 4. At the base there is a dry cleaners and soon to be a cafe (or so they tell us).

However (here is my speculation) i believe that they will put some retail along roosevelt and have the main entrance to the lobby in the inner drive area (where the sales center is now). Although, they may abut the townhouses right up against the parking podium and only have the parking garage entrance in the center area.

I will stop in the sales center sometime and see if i can find a site plan of that area. I would like to know when they are planning on tearing down the sales center because it is a pain in the ass to walk or drive into tower 4 right now.

Considering the unfairness that has been given to waterview and how slow it took that building to get out of the ground; is anyone else getting really impatient on MPW?

I mean seriously, lets go already, they have been doing site prep since feb/march.
(sorry for the rare bout of bitterness, i just want to see these things finished!)

Also, not to shill for my own building, but seeing OMP take shape, i think improves the modest design of tower 4. If you walk south on columbus towards OMP the curved facades of OMP & tower 4 really start to work well together. They look like 3 "waves"

At least OMP is shooting up pretty fast. I was gone for a week in NY and when I came back, I could actually notice the difference. This baby is gonna be a monster.

OMP was a very slow starter as well. Although it's really flying now, originally it was planned for completion by year-end '07, which clearly is not going to happen. OMPW, which originally was planned for completion by year-end '08, obviously will take until sometime in '09 to wrap-up....

In response to Eventually...Chicago's comment about elevating Tower 4. Not only does it elevate tower 4, but Towers 3 and 2 as well. I live in the rather bland Tower 2, and it is exciting to see how the area is developing, and coming together.

Its like an arc of increasingly innovative design.

OMP & MPW really will complete the streetwall not only on the roosevelt side but on the LSD/columbus side as well. The progression of moving north along LSD coming to grant park will be almost as exciting as when you turn back west on LSD right after you go over the river and the loop and south loop is right in front of you.
