San Antonio Scorpions is a good name. Much better than the Dallas Stars.

I've been in San Antonio for the past couple days for work and saw this. What are they doing with this old theater. Looks like they are preserving the facade but what'a being built? There's a big crane too.

Might I add that this city is one of the most beautiful I've been too and I've been to most. It's been 6 years since I've been here and I never realized ther was much absolutely amazing art Deco and Spanish colonial revival architecture here. I'll have to come back more often.

It is a new performing arts center built within the shell of the old. It will also connect to the Riverwalk. Earlier in the thread are nice renderings.

Very cool. I found this from earlier in this thread. It is from a few years ago. Is this still the plan?

Oh man that's kick ass and from what I saw that side of town could really use something like that to kick start some improvements over there.

This is the way the building will look once it is done.

WOW...really nice. However, I cannot help be pessimistic. I will not believe this to be true till I see it finished. It simply is too nice for our downtown. This is the kind of thing we need to bring in some developers to build some nice 30-50, may be 70 story residential towers. And this will be much desire for new shops and restaurants near and around this place.

The Performing Arts Center

I see your point, Car2004. San Antonio developers have a habit of modifying plans to something less sterling, like the Hyatt Regency Hotel that was cut off at the knees to avoid casting a shadow on the Alamo or the Grand Hyatt which was originally billed as a 50-story hotel and was shrunk to the current 39-story wall that now runs along Market Street. However, I'm seeing more "forward-thinking" leaders emerging within city politics so we may be on the threshold of seeing some pretty impressive projects for San Antonio. Yeah, about the 30- 50- and 70- story hotels coming to SATX, we are WAY overdue. Our skyline would've been marginally impressive in the 1940s, but sadly, our skyline is lagging behind Houston, Dallas, and now even Austin big-time!

I like it. I like how the windows create points of light on the facade sort of like stars. I'll still miss the dome, though.

Hopefully the facade won't appear as translucent as it does in the daytime rendering. I'd like the square building behind the facade to be less visible. I like the star effect at night too.

Why is the SA thread so danged slow while the Austin one is blowing up all the time? Is there just nothing going on in downtown SA? When I was recently there, it looked like some stuff was happening, would love to know more about SA development.
