I'm just lucky in that my blood sugar moderates itself pretty well. I know people who have a hard time going 3-4 hours without food, and modern mass transportation must be hell at times.

The YYC twitter account mentioned that the current ATC tower will be demolished once the new one is up and running, and that the space will be used for more warehouses and logistics.

I wrote back to them suggesting they make the official viewing area around that space, and elevate it so you have a nice view over the fencing. That would be an excellent location.

They do code share on YYC-DFW (as far as I know all metal owned by AA which I wish wasn't the case)

Nice, Bigtime, i will back you up on that by sending off a friendly email myself to the CAA. I encourage any other planenuts to push the airport to make a new viewing area appropriate to today's times that uses european models.

I second it. If they know how many of us bring ladders or climb on top of their vehicles to avoid the fence, they will definitely think about us.

Also I saw Ottawa Airport has formed a group called "Airport Watch" which is recognized by YOW and they have a mutual beneficial relationship.

Food for thought....

Yes, you are right Bigtime. Any update since 2006 to this group? Is it active? Do they accept new members?

It's also not a "domestic flight." ORD-YYC.

I never said it was a "hardship." But I do expect that I'm not going to be FORCED to bring my own food on a flight that takes 4 hours (and that's a long flight- it's not LA-Dubai but we're not talking ORD-MKE here), and if I am, I expect to be informed of it. We didn't even get a tiny bag of pretzels. 4 hours on tomato juice- and again, it was an $1100 return fare.
I'm in Calgary 2 days a week, Seattle 5.

Transborder is more or less the same as domestic in terms of flight times. YYC to ORD is shorter than many Canadian domestic flights. $1,100 is a rip off by about a factor of three.

Really? Even my 3 year old son can go at least 6 hours without food. I can easily last 24. Food on a plane or in an airport is mostly a way to pass the time.

For a lot of us, sure. But the same goes for airplane bathrooms - I've always just assumed people were taught at a young age to "go before you leave", and yet the second the seatbelt sign goes off, there's a mad dash to the bathroom. And it continues throughout the flight (even on a short 90 minute jaunt).

It looks like Qatar airlines is kicking up a bit of fuss saying their Doha-Montreal route is doing very well after 10 months and they would like to serve YYZ, YVR, and YYC daily.

Might just be that they don't have your bladder of steel. Or their Depends are already soaked to the core.

I didn't realize not having to pee every hour meant I have a bladder of steel, but thanks for the compliment.

Can someone once again explain the bias against carriers from the Western half of Asia from servicing YYC? Is it because the odds of their being job action / strike related disruptions being less, because it would add more destinations / more direct destinations, or because it would cause more competition / be cheaper for certain destinations?

Heck I would gladly hop a trip over to Qatar for a week, or Dubai. Not just for aviation goodness but for all the other SSP related nerdyness that resides over there.
Not to mention the mid east being more volatile these days, these are just about the safest places you can get to on the other end of the world.

Ok, looks like YYC finally posted their numbers for Jan & Feb. You might be a little bit surprised, even with the extra day in Feb.

Oddly, International up despite LH pulling out on Feb 4th....

Wow, domestic and transborder are leading the charge. Definitely nice to see international in the positive despite the loss of LH.
