Hollis ported the Executive First idea (2 cabin aircaft) from CO. All widebody aircraft had three class of service. CP Air had similar offering to AC during the 3 cabin days.
1) Timeframe for 762 and 762ER would be just before they retired.
2) 430 seats in a 2 class layout I assume? Do you know the approximate breakdown of J and Y seats.

Thanks again.

I can answer your #2.

48J/379Y (22J on the main deck and 26 J in the Upper Deck) Ttl 427.

This was effective 1 June 1995. Before then, there were a couple of other variants.

Everybody seems to be enjoying the summer and forum is inactive for nearly a week.

Just to kick-off a bit of interest at least for the photographers;

Tonight's United 621 to YYC is showing A320 with N475UA which is painted in retro livery.

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N475UA

http://www.airliners.net/search/phot...gsearch=N475UA

There is always a possibility that this might change.

Just read on airlineroute.net that BA is reducing YYC to 5 weekly for a 3 week period in the really slow season mid Nov - early Dec. I cannot recall if they have done this in previous years, but is this a first?
Not a huge loss as it is for such a short period, but surprised to see it.

IIRC,when BA launched the YYC route it was 5x weekly, however with a 772 rather than current 763.

The current move to 5x weekly must be taken into context, there are a lot of other cities being cut back over the upcomming winter season. Most of the other cutbacks are for a lot longer than 3 weeks. In this context YYC is doing okay and holding its own.

I also note tht LH is doing random cutbacks in frequency a lot more than BA. Many widebody aircraft will be parked around Europe for winter 2012/13.

Wow, that is a lot of reductions by BA to North America.

Has anyone seen a DC-9 operating in and out of YYC the past month or so? I have seen it parked over at the Shell but haven't managed to get over there to see the registration and find out who is operating it. I keep spotting it on final.

Sure you aren't noticing a CRJ 7/900? A couple of the private operators run those up for fly in fly out.

I am very familiar with the Suncor CRJ's and the other operators in and out of YYC. This bird has the longer, narrower engine nacelles with the clamshell buckets on the back. It also makes a lot more noise than a CRJ.

I meant to go check it out when I saw it parked for a few days last week but didn't manage to make it over there in time.

Here is an interesting event for next month. Does anybody remember the good ol' Aviation Days? Here is the reincarnation.

News and Events
Posted - June 27, 2012

THE WARBIRDS ARE COMING: Saturday August 25th & Sunday August 26th

The Headliners are: B-17 - Sentimental Journey from the Arizona Commemorative Air Force and a P-51 Mustang from Vintage Wings of Canada.

Subject to availability, these fine aircraft will be joining the Expo:

T-28 Trojans • Replica Spitfire
Boeing Stearman • Beech 18
Corsair • SE-5
Harvard • Current Military Aircraft

Once again SAIT Polytechnic – Art Smith Aero Centre will be Sponsoring the event by letting us use their ramp and apron to display these fantastic aircraft.

There will also be some great activities as part of the event that you won’t want to miss out on.

They also have a VIP night photoshoot of the engine runups of all aircraft on the apron at the same time. It is 100 bucks to register for the ramp shoot, which is quite a bit IMO, but maybe worth it.

I haven't seen a B-17 here since about 2004 if I am remembering correctly. Will definitely be taking this in!

If all those A/C show up, that would be a kick-a$$ photo shoot, I wonder how many people they're allowing to register, do you have a link?

Kinda mundane, but poking around at yyc.com there is now a nifty parking cost calculator that shows the cost at the various onsite lots when you plug in arrival time/date and departure time/date.

Pretty good for figuring out which lot to use for different stay lengths.

Westjet to start ZLO

http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/deal...le-ge-20120723

Westjet continues to release its winter schedule.

Manzanillo is being added as a new route weekly from YYC.

I am pretty sure this route was flown as charters in the previous years, but new sched service. Flights to operate Fridays.

More to come soon I am sure!

"We will also expand service from various Canadian cities to Hawaii, California, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Wow."

More Westjet Love

Just had a quick run through the upcoming Westjet Winter international/transborder scheds and so far have noted the following.... changes relate to last winter:

ZLO as mentioned 1 new weekly flight
SJD going to 6 weekly from 5
LAX going to 11 weekly from 7
LAS going to 20 weekly from 17 (there will be 4 flights on Tues, Thurs and Sundays!)

Still awaiting something on the Hawaii program though... still not showing any direct flights.. I am told there will be though.... hmmmm

I wonder if they will charter a 757 again? Although I have to say that it hasn't been the best for them in terms of customer satisfaction, I wonder if they are working on something more solid for the upcoming season?

Johnny, what's your take on LAX going up (same with LAS)? Are they trying to grow their share of the market so they have a place for the extra 737's once the Q400's start showing up and take over routes like YYC-YEG/YXE?

The charter 757 is likely to be back in operation provided that WS can secure aircraft to do the job. The only thing more solid for WS would be to contract 2 757 and only increase schedule by 1/2 airplane equivalent. FTE example would going from 1 to 2 personel but the workload only increases to 1.5 FTE.

On LAX, WS has tried to go multiple times daily on YYC-LAX before, each time they see lower than expected returns and drop the service the following season. Over the past 6-7 years there have been 11 weekly during the summer season, winter season, shortened season, etc. Last years expirement was to SNA not LAX, that project also failed.

LAS on the other hand is very impressive they now have either 3 por 4 times daily.

On 737 fleet growth and WS regional, Between now and 2018 WS has the option of being anywhere from nuetral to huge expansion, All 737 deliveries are timed with lease expiries. For 2013 there were three aircraft leases due for renewal, but WS kept the aircraft for growth once the Thomas Cook charter contract was signed.

Future growth will be timed with the Q400 integration. However keep in mind the current 5-6x daily flights on YYC-YEG are only about .5 aircraft equivalent, so full removal of 737 from this route will not materially impact the fleet plan. I don;t think WS will remove 737s from YYC-YXE, rather there may be an off peak increase in flying to cycle the Q400s out of YXE (although this can be done on the YWG side of the equation).

Expect Q400s to replace 737s on YLW run, especially if WS regional goes into YYF (Penticton). When WS went into YKA, they canabalized their YYC-YLW operation by about 25%, expect the same to happen if YYF is go. ALso look for Q400s on YKA (all Q400 all the time to the Okanagan).

My parents won't be happy. They live in Kelowna and basically avoid prop jobs at all costs when they fly. It makes it a no brainer for them to use WestJet whenever possible. Here's hoping the Q400 is as quiet as Bombardier's website says.
