Currently I can hear the mayhem from my house as they convert the former Mac's near the corner of my street into a pharmacy with a plaza.

A 2,688 sq ft expansion is planned.

Here is a still shot screen capture from the city of Windsor's webcam watching over the aquatic centre construction. Taken at 8:58 this morning.

New lcbo

Hello All. Don't know if anyone has had a chance to drive by the new LCBO going up on Lauzon. I drove by yesterday and they are starting to put the metal beams up. Nice to see a new development in the area. I hope this will become a trend with the new fire hall, WFCU Centre, and Smoke and Spice. (God I Love Smoke and Spice).

Are they converting that Macs into a pharmacy? I thought they were using the empty parcel nearby to build the pharmacy on.

They are. They have the entrance from Villaire blocked off and they are digging a foundation for the addition. I believe it will only have access now from Prado and/or Wyandotte.

University of Windsor update

Construction is starting on the University of Windsor's new Innovation welcome centre and adjoining parking deck.

source: http://windsorite.ca/2012/07/constru...vation-centre/

you can see the new engineering building is still under construction in the next block.

Quote:
Construction has started on building a seven-level parking garage and adjoining Innovation Centre at the University of Windsor.

Originally announced last December, preliminary work commenced on the project in May and this week construction crews began digging the building’s foundation.

The parking garage will consist of 1,055 spaces and displaces an existing Faculty and Staff parking lot. Two separate buildings will be constructed as part of the complex and will be connected by a second-storey pedestrian bridge from the Innovation Centre to the parking structure.

The Innovation Centre will front Wyandotte West and will become the new home of Campus Community Police, Parking Services and other campus services. The University plans to centralized some of the existing surface lots on campus into the new parking structure.

The new parking garage will add approximately 300 spaces to campus and will bring the total amount of parking spots available up to 3,000. Both buildings are planned to be completed by this time next year.

So it looks like the preliminary work for the tunnel is starting. Mainly with demolitions right now. I'm not sure when the project really gets going. Yesterday the old downtown beer store was finally torn down.

source: http://windsorite.ca/2012/07/old-dow...-tunnel-plaza/

Quote:
Windsor’s old Downtown Beer Store on Wyandotte Street East is no more.

After moving to a new home at Goyeau and Elliott, the old location was demolished Monday and Tuesday to make way for improvements to the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel plaza.

City of Windsor Administrators approved a finalized design for the new plaza in March which will include a queueing area for heavy traffic.

Goyeau Street will be permanently closed between Park and Wyandotte.

The project includes:

new car access routes
new plaza buildings for Canada Border Services Agency and a tunnel maintenance building
additional car inspection lanes and Nexus lanes
landscaping
moving a City of Windsor Permit Parking lot to the location of the old Beer Store
Outside of the plaza work includes:

Closure of Goyeau Street between Park Street and Wyandotte Street (to become part of the extended plaza area)
Reconfigure City Hall Square to two-way traffic
Reconfigure Park Street to two-way traffic between Goyeau Street and City Hall Square
Reconfigure ‘Lot 10’ Permit Parking (southeast corner of Park Street and Goyeau Street)
Gateway landscaping at the main access at Goyeau Street / Wyandotte Street
Additional demolition will take place near the plaza in the coming months.

Construction of the new liquor store at Tecumseh Mall is on coming along.

source: http://windsorite.ca/2012/07/constru...-parkway-lcbo/

Construction has started on a new LCBO location in East Windsor.

The new location, planned and approved by the City of Windsor in March, will be on the property of Tecumseh Mall, located on the north edge of the property across the parking lot from Sobeys.

It will be a single story stand alone building with 12,000 square feet and 65 parking spots.

I look forward to the new LCBO that hopefully should rival Roundhouse Centre in size. It's great to see some of the vacant land on Lauzon Parkway going to good use, but let's not forget the impending closure of Rona sometime soon. http://eedition.windsorpennysaver.co...2041101/2.html

It claims they're moving to a smaller location, although where yet is anybody's guess. Good luck trying to find retail brave enough to take on property adjacent to Wal-Mart.

And just announced today, Tecumseh Mall Zellers is slated for closure. http://www.am800cklw.com/newspopup.php?id=9584

That's going to leave a big hole in the mall. I'm curious why Target turned down that location.

Is Zellers going out of business or something? The one in Devonshire Mall is closing too and the one on Huron Church closed a few months ago.

Yes, they're going out of business, but at the same Time Target is buying them out. The only thing is not all the stores will be converted to Target stores, some stores will just be closed like in this instance.

I was really hoping We'd see 2 Target stores in Windsor, but I guess not. The Zellers along Huron Church is being converted into a Fresh Co.

Basically Zellers let Target have their pick of 180 or so of their stores. Target then selected which ones they wanted to keep for themselves, and which they wanted to sell off to other retailers, including Wal-Mart, Loblaw, Sobeys, etc. The rest of the stores were to remain as Zellers.

HBC is now just ridding themselves of the rest of the locations citing unprofitability, even though it's their own fault since they put minimal effort into being competitive. Personally, I only went to Zellers because unlike Wal-Mart, I can be in and out within 5 minutes lol.

An insider told me they are looking at 2 possible locations to build a new store and three where the building already is built.

Did not say what the three buildings were, but I know the land parcels are
1. Parcel near Princess Auto
2. Parcel Near Manning Road and EC Row.

Yah I know. I would probably not make the trip to go out to Manning for Rona. Especially since I pass about 3 hardware stores on the way there.

Here is an update on the aquatic centre. It's another still shot taken from the city's live webcam.

http://www.citywindsor.ca/mayorandco...ex-Camera.aspx

It appears they are doing their second pour for the basement of the structure and we can see structural steel is on site.

Once the basement is done we should see size of the site increase to it's full footprint as then they will have to pour the ground level pads and then structural steel.

Finally.

Is this a chain pharmacy like Rexall, or just an independent?

Also, Mac's must not be doing the greatest business anymore. I've seen 3 of them depart from Riverside over the past 5 years (Wyandotte/Pillette, Wyandotte/Villaire, Lauzon/Riverside).

Here's a small update on the Windsor Star building and a first appearance by Sushi One Express. I think they could have atleast painted the face of the building first before they put up the sign, but obviously there's still lots of work to go so maybe they will end up doing that. Who knows, maybe they'll put a second sign since the wiring's there.

all pictures are from my wife

I heard it's a Rexall.
