I'm glad I always take my "Christmas vacation" in November :D |
I'll be home for Christmas but my family and I will be going to the Montreal area for a couple of days and stay in St-Jerome and then we will head to Quebec City for a few days including New Years. I find Quebec City is the idea place in Canada to visit in Winter.
We have been alternating between the Montreal area and Quebec City for the last 4 years so this time we've decided to visit both as long as driving conditions are okay and don't hold us back. |

We call it the Grand Southwestern Ontario Christmas Tour.
The usual is: Hamilton to Sarnia until Christmas morning, Then to Norfolk County for Christmas lunch and overnight, to Barrie on Boxing Day and overnight Then back to Norfolk for 28-29, back to Hamilton Then wherever we end for New Years, looking like Kitchener this year Then finally back to Hamilton for good. This year due to conflicting dates I don't have to go to Barrie and my girlfriend doesn't have to come back for Norfolk round 2, but then she's going for Sarnia round 2. |
I'm taking a ride with one of my brothers and his wife from Edmonton to Grande Prairie on the 24th and I return with them to Edmonton on the 27th. That's about 4.5 hours between these two cities. Not very much time, I know, but they have insanely busy work schedules. And I want to see my niece in Edmonton in time for her 8th birthday.
Driving such long distances here in this part of Canada even just for the weekend and short holidays isn't unusual at all. |

Ill be crossing the river for Xmas morning formalities before coming back over for dinner.
Total roundtrip 12kms. |
On the road this year. We'll be spending Christmas Eve at our new country house in the region of Portneuf, QC (we receive both of our families). We'll then go to Joliette to celebrate with the in-laws, be on Montreal's South Shore on the 26 on my father's side, and then spend the weekend in Jonquière (Saguenay) at my sister in-law's.

I miss heading up to Muskoka each year until my parents made the move to the west coast to be near my sister. The place looks like a Christmas Card. Thanks to snow-squalls this time of year the place is always buried under mounds of snow.

When I was younger I would take the train to Toronto around Christmas... it arrived in the evening at the time, and I always loved the scenery of the hills around the Parry Sound area during the sunset hours as you headed to Union Station. That view of Huntsville above reminded me of that a little. |
Took this last Christmas. It was a perfect day and it was nice to get up into some snow. Too bad nobody can use it right now.

Only being partly facetious. When I lived in Taiwan I don't think I came across a single expat who hadn't been to Thailand. It's the obvious beach destination, as it's far easier to get onto the sand than if you're going to the Philippines. Plus the food is reliably amazing. And there are elephants. |
Something I would like to do sometime, and I'm reminded of it when I watch the World Juniors, is go to that tournament when it's being played in Europe. I always see the pictures of these cities in the Czech Republic or wherever and think it would be cool to see those places and also be there for the tournament. I always wonder if there are any type of organized gatherings going on for fans that travel to it. A "Canada House" type of thing.
