Why is Manitoba the only mainly “Slurpee Drinking” province?
Do other provinces not like Slurpees? Or are they more into Ice Caps?
|
Other provinces are not into obesity and diabetes as much.

You guys are still into Slurpees? Wow, this has been going on since the late 80s when I used to visit my cousins out in Winnipeg.
|
Those are diabetes stats which are surprising, because Saskatchewan is the obesity king.
Maybe Ontario has more type 1 diabetics? It’s obesity rate is relatively low. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/globalne...-top-spot/amp/ |
Aren't we the fattest and most diabetic?
I assume slurpees aren't popular here because they're virgin. We do make an alcoholic version in beef buckets called slush. |
Slurpees were pretty popular growing up as a kid in Calgary, I remember biking to the convenience store with friends most summer weekend days to get one. But based on my friends who grew up in Ontario, it wasn't much of a thing here at all.
Almost everyone I've met from Winnipeg has mentioned that they are the Slurpee capital of Canada. I believe Calgary was second place back in the 90s, which would correlate with my experiences. |

Gatineau is home to the headquarters of Slush Puppie Canada Inc. So they're the kings of slush here.

I love slurpees. I limit my intake since they are just sugar, but they are great in the summer. I was disappointed when one of my local 7-11s closed somewhat suddenly for unknown reasons.
|
Also Slurpees have been the non alcoholic beverage of choice for homeless people in every province I’ve visited. Well, on second thought maybe McDonald’s fountain drinks are more popular. But I’m not sure where this thread is coming from. Are there any numbers to confirm the OPs claim?

I may have bought a Slurpee and then proceed to put several shots in it. In my 30s. Slushy alcoholic drinks are fantastic, yet remain relatively rare in Toronto. I've been told largely due to liquor laws that make it difficult to make then en masse in slush machines. They're pretty common in most American cities I've been to in summer time. The Negroni slushy at Parson's Chicken in Chicago may be one of the best things I've had. And several of them with an early lunch make your day an interesting experience. |
I was like WTH is a slurpee?. It's a slush, call it a slush.

We have to go down towards the GTA or into the U.S. to see 7-11s. Quebec's dépanneur scene is dominated by Couche-Tard (which also owns Circle K, Mac's Milk, Beckers, Mike's Mart, etc. outside Quebec) and a few other big local players. |

We have a few places that have slush alcohol drinks, but not places I tend to frequent. |

The specific "slurpee" machines they use are the best though. I recall them also being in local convenience stores when I was younger. 7-11s in the US use a different machine and the drinks are terrible IMO. |

I remember drinking more Slurpees though when I was in Toronto and Vancouver proper. I remember drinking them a lot around 2003-07 , and I admit I drank those awful coffee flavored Slurpees when we were living in Vancouver. It was in fall 2006, grade 9, I started drinking more Starbucks mochas than Slurpees. Then in grade 10 gradually switched to Americanos and drip coffee , and slurpees didnt really appeal to me anymore (I still have good memories of those sour slush puppies though) |
We like beer
|
Why is this a thread? Why did I just respond to it? Are Slurpee's not just for kids in the summer? The only slurpee I will drink is a Pina-colada or Margarita.

They had other locations in the city and suburbs too. |
