City's air travel soars

The number of people flying to and from the Saskatoon airport is soaring.

Air travel in Saskatoon for March and the first quarter of 2010 has set records, says the Saskatoon Airport Authority.

Traffic grew by 5.6 per cent in March compared to 2009 numbers. At 101,926 passengers, it was the fourth consecutive month to surpass the 100,000 mark. Record traffic was also reported in January and February.

Winter charter flight usage was up by more than 20 per cent over last tear.

Overall, year-to-date passenger traffic is up six per cent compared to the first quarter of 2009.

A terminal expansion is scheduled for summer 2011, which will expand the "post security" area with more retail, food and beverage services and a larger passenger waiting area.
