By this do you mean more transborder from YEG by WS?

I think the adds by WS in the last year have been solid.

At this point the onus is on AA/UA to launch DFW/IAH/ORD, and it will eventually come... but what should come next for WS aside from SLC? (I'm still not fully sold on the utility of SLC, honestly)

A lot of talk about the upcoming travel distance for the Stanley Cup Final and the lack of a direct flight between Fort Lauderdale and Edmonton.

Too bad we are not seeing any of the airlines stepping up to provide some flights between the two cities during this time.

Canadian North would be my choice with some of their 737-700s being used.

Great for fans and media going between games.

The media often hops on the teams charters. At least they do in regular season.

LGA has restrictions, you must be within 1500 Miles with a few USA exceptions built in.

JFK is a long term shot with their new rebuild but its very expensive to get landing slots there and even WestJet out of Calgary has had issues making it go daily year round.

That’s correct✅ . (If) I’m not mistaken WestJet Calgary YYC - New York JFK service during fall/winter seasons, is 4-5x weekly at best. It’s only during spring & summer seasons when this route is daily.

It's 6x weekly in the winter.

Same Press Release. Looks like this is a step backward? WestJet flying to MSP where Atlanta bound passengers will deplane and go through the terminal to a Delta flight. Am I missing something?

"WestJet is bolstering its transborder winter service by providing daily connectivity to Atlanta. Through direct connectivity to Atlanta and Minneapolis, guests will enjoy the advantages of WestJet's codeshare agreement with Delta Airlines, granting access to hundreds of additional U.S. destinations from two of Delta's busiest hubs."

^WS is serving both ATL and MSP non-stop year-round. It just says pax will have access to both those hubs.

I'm confused, where in that quote does it say that ATL passengers deplane at MSP and go to a Delta flight???

No they don't. Not for at least 20 years. Team broadcasters aren't "media". They're employees of the team, for all intents and purposes. But real media members (eg. independent of the team) fly on their own. But having been involved as a media member in a Stanley Cup final in the early 2000s, I can tell you that the NHL has set up charters in the past to transport media back and forth between cities. Not sure if that's the case nowadays.

Correct. I think the radio broadcast crew are employees and fly with the team but for everyone else they're on their own. I know one of the analysts based in Edmonton and he lives on a plane. Teams do not set up charters for the media.

Ohh I see now, it sounds like wishy washy corporate jargon.

WS' full winter schedule hasn't been released yet so I still think there's a good chance at MSP being upped.

The Edmonton International Airport announced that its upgraded departures roadway is set to reopen this fall. The project, ongoing since September 2023, includes infrastructure restoration, aesthetic improvements, increased accessibility, and added safety features. Travellers should continue use the relocated drop-off and pick-up area east of the parkade until the work is completed.
