Thanks, I'm a member of the onsite staff for the property owner but work closely with Ledcor and related parties for the new tower. As for more pictures count on it. If possible I'll try and grab some of the tables when flying as that is quite the sight to see.

From the skytrain, it's awesome to see half a dozen highrises going up at once!

Once all these towers are complete in the metro town area, especially Station square, that view of the metro town skyline when you're driving on highway 91 will be epic,

When I was up Harbour Centre a few years ago, the guide told me that it was common for visitors to point at Metrotown and ask if it was Seattle. O.o

That's an urban myth and you know it! I too heard of American cruise ship passengers thinking North Vancouver is Japan....

Anyways, time to ask my obligatory question to tease a certain forumer about the famous quote from the Kevin Costner movie, "Field of Dreams".

So....any tenants?

I think the towers on the south side of the skytrain line will make the most difference. The majority of high rises in Metrotown are obscured by the crest of the hill when you look from the 91.

Who would make the inference that Burnaby can pass for Seattle when it's clear that you cannot see the iconic space needle? It is just an urban joke directed at American tourists.

No it's definitely not.

I used to work at Grouse Mtn during my summers and we frequently got tourists asking if Metrotown was Seattle.

Unfortunately not an urban legend.

I even had one ask if Baker was Mt Fuji.

Sad thing is these people vote...
But something tells me most are going to be from very closed off religious communities. Im sure if you asked them a bible related question they would have no problem giving you a answer...atleast thats my hunch...I could be wrong.

To be back on topic, when do you all think we will see a future redevelopment plan of the mall and parking lots? Im not talking about tearing down the mall but rather incorporating towers in to it, that or adding a third level and redeveloping the eastern edge of it. I would think they could go pretty high with any towers that would be closer to the center of the site.

Wow, I've met some incredibly geographically challenged people before, but I couldn't believe anyone could mistake Metrotown for Seattle. However, it appears that this comes up often enough for the Harbour Lookout to post this sign in their observation deck.

Thanks for sharing. I guess some tourists are geographically retarded.

My favourite story along those lines was some visitors from Ireland who inquired with me about how they would go about taking a day-trip up to the Yukon from Vancouver. They asked how long a drive it would be to Whitehorse. Off of the top of my head I guessed maybe two full days of driving, but probably three since you can only reasonably drive for 10 to 12 hours a day. They were in absolute shock.

I then added that for the sake of comparison Ireland is approximately 90,000 square kilometres in size (I had recently poked around on Ireland's Wiki page, so I had some recollection of its size), while BC is approximately 950,000 square kilometres; more than ten times as large.

wholly you guys are friggin harsh on tourists. if you plopped me down anywhere outside the uk or north america I would be just as naive about local geography as how people are with mistaking burnaby for another city. |(and im not retarded and/or a religious zealot, its just a matter of not knowing)
