Sorry, I'm a lurker, but don't post much. However I hike like crazy and the sight lines look more like Shaw Bute than North but definately in the North Mountain Preserves.
you're the second person to guess that today, the other was my dad. I thought I knew Phoenix history as well as anyone but I'd never heard of this place.... off to google in 3, 2, 1.....
ok after extensive googling, I know a lot about cloud nine, but no that is not where I took those pictures. I can almost guarantee none of you have been where I was.
I have. The little knoll in front of you is the one with the 'S' on it for Sunnyslope. It's just off Mountain View. (I just checked Google Earth and can see exactly where you drove...there wasn't a gate?)
I have no clue what was originally up there and found it once like 15 years ago while hiking through the North Mountain area.
Cool perch.

Well some people have a harder time with heat than with cold (and vice versa). For instance in heat you sweat. In cold you're perfectly dry. Also I think most people would rather die by freezing then burning. With that said I get your point, but many people also choose to live in places that are somewhere in between the extremes. Such as parts of the Cali, northwest, or say...Maryland or North Carolina.
the way I think of it is that if it is cold, I can put more clothes on, and repeat that process until I am warm. If it is hot, I can only take off so many clothes before I cannot anymore, and if I am still hot, then oh well.
and plinko, no there wasn't a gate. I just drove my Buick Regal right on up there, haha.
Managed to get all three... trains planes and automobiles in this one.
And cranes!
The vantage point is west of Central Ave, on a road called: 'W. Foothill Dr.' Is this correct?? I just looked at Google Maps and it appears that this would be an old residential street, with what appears to be some ruins.
It is actually a 1.6 acre lot listed at 2.25 million and is surrounded on all four sides by mountain preserve. The lot was grandfathered in along with the road when they made the preserve. It would be an unbelievable place to build a home.
google "mls 4069615" if you are interested at all. Maybe we can pool some cash together.
I had grand jury duty for 4 months one time and I'm pretty familiar with that garage. They always stop you when you drive in, but I don't think the cops at the entrance will normally give you a second glance later in the day when stepping into the elevator to get back to your car. So either enter by foot, or enter at 8am if you want to drive in and lie about having jury duty.
The jurors have been moved out of that parking structure [to the one west of 7th ave] and it is now fully locked down including the stairways and elevators. If any of you photographer types would like to get up there I do have access...
These remind me of the traditional views of DT L.A.
This is more attractive, I must say.
Greener...and the mountains are larger...mostly because they are closer I guess...

The 5th and 6th pictures makes me wish how midtown and downtown were closer together...Phoenix looks dense when those two are in the same picture from that angle...
