Wow, I wish I were home for this. This morning in Toronto was one of the coldest in memory, though -- about -12C when I left for work and blowing snow all afternoon. The harbour is the most "frozen over" looking I've ever seen it. Many years it's mostly open water through the whole winter.

I thought I was seeing things this morning on my way to school, with all these sparkly stuff. As it turns out, it was ice crystals.

It was either that, or a few drinks I had last night...

It was -12 in Toronto, and schools were closing, businesses shut down...

It was -32 in Thunder Bay this morning, no schools were closed. At all. None. Business as usual.

We haven't had a day off school because of snow or cold weather in years.

Lots of fun laughing at those pussies on the radio this morning. Toronto: City of Weaklings.

Ehhh ... its only 48 degrees difference.... give or take. Couldn't even see the breath of my horse.

this morning i woke up, checked that stupid Weather channel tv with people repeating the same stuff... -40°C. Then I thought: it's gonna get warmer with the sun! At 9 am was still -40... i went off and took the bus. I wasn't really feeling cold, it was sunny and one guy at the bus stop was without cap/gloves... I thought: is this hell? Am I dead? Then the bus came and i'm still alive

I was with some fellas from San Francisco today, boy were they ever surprised.

They must think we're all Eskimos. I'm sure they are going to be talking about this for weeks after they get back.

Anyways, our winter builds character. Only the toughest can survive the Peg.

Do you guys realize that it's been up to -4°C in Iqaluit today!? Freaky!

It was up to -5°C here in Edmonton today, but there was freezing rain instead of snow most of the time.

so, i really think this is the answer to all the questions why Winnipeg lacks in streetlife, why Winnipeg isn't booming as Calgary, etc... It's just too cold, i think it's really miraculous that 700.000 people live here.

All of the prairies are supposed to have colder than normal temperatures for the next three months

Gotta agree, the +11 was just fine today. It's about to get frigid though, they're calling for -20. 30 degree change in 24 hours, hurrah!

I guess -20 would feel "warm" in Winnipeg right about now.

Albertaboy: where'd you hear 3 months of colder than normal? El Nino is kicking it hard right now, we should be in for one hell of a nice spring! And hot and dry summer, which unfortunately means a lot of forest fires.

Well in Vancouver we hit a windchill of -12!!!
Today its about 8 degrees but pure mist.
Vancouver is obviously much warmer but damn it is it humid. The cold gets right to the bones.
Victoria isn't near as bad.

I remember I was in Calgary it was 1 degree but I still took off my coat becuase its so dry and sunny.

BTW, I thought this thread was about what is wrong about the Peg. Did it mean just the weather or general things about the city?

Were not going to even go there as it would attract a plethora of moronic idiots who would take pleasure in bashing Winnipeg. And if they do, I'm going to start my own "What's wrong with (select city goes here) thread

I agree, the title of the thread is misleading and should be changed!

EC has been off all winter - the west has been a few degrees warmer than normal for Dec and Jan..Calgary average high for Jan was +2.5c - not bad. Winnipeg was -9.8c. Vancouver was +5.6c...

When we had a couple cold days in mid-Jan, the meteroligists were predicting the rest of Jan would be in a deep-freeze...I knew that wouldn't happen :-)

El Nino is in full affect, so I'd be surprised if it was colder than averages in the west.

Wow is all I can say about the weather in the Peg. I was waliking around yesterday with my winter jacket open and some of the snow was melting. Then today we have that freezing rain and a few degrees below 0. Nothing like -40 or -50 like some of you guys. But to make you feel better it is supposed to get -20 for a week fairly soon here in Alberta.

Albertaboy I am sorry to disappoint you with our comparatively warm winters.
