On Friday the Perimeter was extremely icy. Granted I was on a few hours after the accident but doing 80 was definitely towards the top end of what you could safely do and even then if you needed to hit your brakes quickly it would send you sliding. You needed to drive very defensively and leave a wide margin of space between vehicles.

Any idea when they are going to fix/replace the overpass on the Trans Canada on the west side of Portage la Prairie, having a huge section of the overpass missing and only one lane operational make us look like a real backwater!

And still can't believe #1 at #16 still hasn't been grade separated with the volume of traffic both see!

Design next year, construction 2021.

Wasn't grade separation for HYW1/16 one of the projects killed by the 99 flood? (The other being Lag/59).

99 or the 09/11 floods? Or both. Either way, yes it was said the were cancelled due to flooding expenditures. Nothing has really come up since then.

Hit-and-run 2 days ago. Thankfully no fatality.

Manitoba infrastructure has a new PDF document outlining further safety improvements proposed for Perimeter, set for this summer. This is a download link to a zip file that contains the PDF

https://www.gov.mb.ca/mit/hpd/pth100...afety_plan.zip

Here’s a summary:

-Run a new service road on the west side of Perimeter from Oak Bluff to Wilkes.

-Close most (all?) dirt roads currently accessing Perimeter between Wilkes and Kenaston.

-Build service road from Brady rd to Waverley and then close Brady rd (already publicly announced).

-Run a service road from Aimes road to Ste Anne’s road (including railroad and seine river crossings), and subsequent closure of access to Perimeter. The only opening left of that cluster of 4 roads would be Sumka rd.

-Close Plessis access to Perimeter and extend Plessis south of Perimeter to the interchange of 59 and the floodway.

That sounds good.

It's nice but when are they going to actually build the grade separations?

Whenever the current government goes from cuts to sustainable spending.

The proposed changes at least address many of the small issues, leaving only the big issues left to tackle once funding is allocated to interchanges.

All that stuff is good news.

The Province just needs to get a program in place for funding the major works. Hopefully Brian P talked with the PM when they were in town regarding this topic.

Andy6 and I are gonna sound like broken records but sure why not...

Add TCH twinning to the list too.

That'll be a fairly major project through the Whiteshell due to terrain. Since the highway is not twinned for a considerable distance within Ontario, I don't suspect anything will happen until theres actual movement from Onatrio.

They've been working on that for probably a decade now. We'll see if they actually get some approvals.

Edit the link says since 2009 in its current form. They also say construction should be underway by now.

I was hoping for both provinces to start working at the same time. Lol, think of us like B.C. Parks Canada finished twinning AB-1 through Banff in 2014 but didn’t start working on the first 6 km in B.C. through Yoho NP until 2016. (It was finished late 2018.) From there, it’s another 40+ km until the 4 lanes through Kicking Horse Canyon.
