Need Help-Winnpieg Vacation

Me & some friends are planning a road trip from the US to Winnipeg in the summer. Were all 19-20. I think the drinking age there is 18. I was wondering if somebody could give me some good night clubs and bars and other things to do..thanks.

Hy's at http://www.hyssteakhouse.com/ is decent eats. Also, have a look at our Winnipeg
dining thread

As for clubbing, you can't go wrong with a Canad Inns club. If you want live music, then hit up The Pyramid, The Woodbine, The Windsor, The Garrick, etc... When you get here, grab a Uptown magazine (usually from a liquor mart).

I'm too lazy at the moment to pull up some links, but there's no shortage of great entertainment here in the 'peg.

Isn't Hy's mega expensive and classy? These kids want to get their drink on, not dine with millionaires.

As for where to hang out, that sort of depends on your "scene". Do you like dirty dive bars, hipster dance clubs, hip hop joints, etc?

If you want a nice place to have a couple drinks prior to going crazy at a club, two words - Earls and Moxies.

The local "talent" staffing any of these restaurants/lounges in the city will not leave you disappointed.

No, no... here's what you do.

If your friends are all guys these are the bars you'll be interested in:

*The Palomino club ->(some of the best cougar hunting in the city)

*If you like young teenage girls check out any of the clubs at the CanadInns they mostly cater to 18-21 types.

*If you want something a little more high class you should try any of the places downtown (for some you need to be 21+).

*The Corydon strip also has a number of funky lounges, although its probably best enjoyed in the summer months.

*This is probably a better idea if you have a date, but check out the revolving lounge at the top of Fort Garry Place. There's some great skyline / downtown views for the skyscraper enthusiast.

Hy's is basically an upscale Keg, not much more expensive.

As for Blush, it's 21 years old or bust, so that won't work.

Also, depending on when in the summer you come, go check out a sporting event (Bombers or Goldeyes)

Your going to have a fine time.

Just remember, that beer here is 5%.

That means, that if you start two fisting Millers thinking that its the same as the tap water back home your going to be verrrryyy sick.

Do you realize Omaha has a baseball team a couple levels up from the Northern "bush" League, the Omaha Royals are a AAA team that play in the PCL.

I really like Omaha, I went there in 2000 on a Rugby Tour and we visited our brother school Creighton Prep. Any of you went there?

Do you realize that he asked for things to do, and suggesting to attend a sporting event is a "thing to do".

No we all went to a school in suburban Omaha. But Creighton Prep is a good school, pretty good sports programs. Also, hows the Marlborough Hotel?

A little dodgy. I'm sure the price is right though.

If you're looking to stay downtown, I'd try the Fort Garry Hotel, Delta on St Mary, Fairmont or Radisson on Portage. Inn at the Forks is nice too.

Yes, or you could try the Hilton, or the Four Seaons, or the Pricingtons Hôtel D'Or. All fine hotels.

Who spends much time in the hotel anyway? Does it have a bed? Good. It's serving its purpose. For his purpose, Marlborough is good enough. Beer is more expensive here, he'll need to save his pennies. Though if he's a history buff I'm sure he'd like Fort Garry, and the Radisson probably has a great view.
