It's the 3-story office building with the textbook example of lousy "public space" behind it. The 1974 article describes the original plan, and the 1980 article is what actually ended up being built.

That's why I'm saying the new office building would block out a tower on that site from many angles.

Anyway, a new development could easily improve that useless and unused public space. It needs to be more cozy and a pub/cafe needs to engage it directly with big windows, a terrace with outdoor seating, etc.

I hate that building and useless empty space. It would be awesome if someone would demolish it and develop something worth while there. I also have high hopes for the Gateway Green site. At least it was rezoned for decent height.

David Chard wants to demolish a heritage building in old town and build a hotel. Pam Modoff has come out of the woodworks and spoken out against it. I am not sure how I feel about it.

Even after the 13 story office building was finished I heard that Victoria's commercial vacancy rate was microscopically low so I expect a proposal on that site any day

That’s good to hear. I didn’t know that it was still low. Hopefully another 15 story office building will get built there or taller.

It’s kind of sad seeing the Hudson tower maxed out. It’s been really cool seeing it get taller every week. The good thing is when you drive down Douglas Street it doesn’t look out of place. It will look even better once the next Hudson tower is built. I am looking forward to seeing that.

I'm sure better renders would come out after this is approved. This stretch of the Yates corridor could really start looking quite dense ...

Bold makeover pitched for Victoria's Harris Green neighbourhood

The profile of two blocks of the Harris Green neighbourhood will be completely changed if a Toronto-based developer’s plans get the green light next year.

Starlight Investments, which over the last few years pieced together land parcels in the 900 and 1000-blocks of Yates and View streets, intends to tear down all of the existing commercial buildings to make way for a massive mixed-use project that will include residential towers, more than 100,000 square feet of commercial buildings and green space.

Interesting article, even more interesting rendering of the purposed Harris Green neighborhood. Having lived in the area previously, it will be interesting to see what direction this development will take!

That’s awesome. Good to hear that it includes another 25 story building. This is exciting. I also read on a link that the city approved a 4 high rise proposal for a new fire hall in Harris Green. It’s going to be such a high density neighbourhood. Awesome changes coming.
