Kind of reminds me of the Norquay building.

i disagree, i think it would've looked fantastic. many of you complain quite often on new builds "look like the suburb building". some of the downtown building are not that "pretty" I'm sorry the Qualico head office in Sage Creek, the new ALTEA gym in Bridgewater, the Humane Society in Linden woods are all beautiful "suburban" buildings.

what confuses me is the "big gay ice cream shop" wtf?

I agree, and how many freaking plazas does the forks actually need?!

Big gay ice cream is a NYC chain of ice cream shops.

I agree, that terrible plaza might as well be a surface parking lot.

I'm fine either way. Those buildings at The Forks would have done a nice job of filling in the northern part of The Forks which has felt a bit like a void for my entire lifetime. But that said, I think we'll all be better off for having Skip The Dishes fill existing buildings and use the Parcel 4 space for a more mixed-use oriented development rather than a single monolithic low rise office space.

And I agree with hecate re: plazas... The Forks needs to ease up on the plazas a bit. There are so many and they are all so sparsely used. Plazas are best when they are animated with people and activity... you don't get that when there are a dozen spread over a small area.

I agree with the above takes on the plaza. Winnipeg doesn't need more open spaces yet, instead it desperately needs people around who will use the spaces that we already have.

I think the design is nice, the timber is cool, a decent number of windows for a change, but I am much happier that Skip is filling existing space. After the Wawanesa build, I would rather not see new office development for a bit (with the exception of including some office space in the podiums for residential buildings).

I have been told "put a pin in it".

Not a bad looking building but a poor fit for the forks. Big office building with a big plaza. Adds little to the area other than filling a barren space in an awkward way.

My thoughts exactly. I don't mind the building but not at that location. And man that plaza is enormous. Considering how much of the forks is already plazas, walkways, and benches, I really don't understand why that corner needs another one.

I'm really not a fan of a "plaza without a purpose" in downtown. We are a winter city and during the summer months park space is more enjoyable. And unless there is regular programming at a plaza (connected to a stage like at OMS and liquor licensed), or a major visual arts element (like a contemporary sculpture garden affiliated with an arts institute), or even a series of outdoor restaurant patios (I saw this lots in squares in Europe, like a dozen restaurants would share a big plaza for dining space), our plazas just end up being a space for office workers to take a cigarette break. Lame.

As we know it now (from those involved)

Put a pin in it. Does that mean put a pin in the Forks residential redevelopment? I certainly hope that's not the case.

It means, as has been mentioned here many times, Skip was not the developer nor owner of this proposed development. So maybe said developer is seeking out new tenants and/or a slight change to the plan.

So then are we referring to the original residential/commercial development or the Skip The Dishes development with regards to putting the pin in it? The original "put a pin in it" comment was quite vague with regards to which situation it was in reference to.
