Saw that in the news story about it. That's quite lame. Oh well, I guess I'm still only going to the Alberta ones.

I still wish they would continue the mall corridor through the Sears main floor to connect to Hamilton street. Then they could add some smaller retailers rather than relying on one or two large, harder to find tenants.

Alberta's are only membership-free because that's a requirement of Alberta law.

Costco is a members-only store whenever possible.

Here's the story from cjme.com which confirms that you need a membership to shop at the Costco liquor store. Congratulations to aberrant for getting Rebellion Brewing Company product(s) into Costco!

The space on Hamilton Street, where you have the question mark, will never be turned into retail as it is the common space/lobby of the seniors' high rise (Palliser Place) above the parkade.

I applaud your enthusiasm for all things Regina. Don't ever stop. Hey ...run for mayor some day

Or just buy a Costco membership? The cheap liquor and gas would probably be worth it enough.

We pretty well live as far away from it as you can get so we never really get out there often enough. We actually used to have a membership but we let it lapse since we never really went there. I was just hoping to try some of their Kirkland branded liquor but I can pick some in Alberta over Christmas I guess.

Just realized that was the lobby now. Would be nice for them to renovate it to make it more open. And yes, I would love to be in city planning or as a consultant someday.

That place was always dead when I went there so it's not surprising.

Ouch. I wonder how many years left on their lease. Probably at least 5.

That's a good question. There isn't much demand for a large retail space anywhere in the city.

This space has had five tenants since the mall opened in the 1960's: Woolco, Walmart, Zellers, Target and Lowes. It still makes me mad that Target had a half-baked plan to expand into Canada. A strong anchor tenant is required to bring people to any mall, and without one it is not a 'destination mall' that people would drive across the city to go to. Maybe they would be better off to tear the Lowes spot down and create more popular pad sites for individual stores and restaurants, which is the trend these days. Northgate is getting kind of sad. Empty stores. Former BMO building sitting empty, etc.

Bulldioze. Infill with residential, park and maybe new community centre. So much dead retail in the city it would make sense to remove some if it.

This would be a good location for an indoor family recreation & entertainment complex of some type (ie go karts, mini golf, etc)

Southland was smart to hand off their Walmart/Zellers/Target to the Canadian Tire umbrella (Atmosphere/Sportchek/CT). That was a good use of a big space and really did a lot to revitalize that mall.

We can all look forward to 20% of it being used as a Halloween store 30 days per year.
